Flow loop study of a cold and cohesive slurry. Pressure drop and formation of plugs

Pavel G. Struchalin et al.

Summary: This article discusses a flow loop study on the risk of cohesive particle slurries in subsea petroleum production. The study focuses on a slurry with ice particles consistent with 0.23-mm size in decane. The experiments showed that increased viscosity of the slurry led to higher pressure drops and the formation of plugs, with particle concentration also influencing plug formation.

Novel approach for measurement of restitution coefficient by magnetic particle tracking

Tobias Oesau et al.

Summary: Interparticle contacts play a crucial role in industrial processes, and the coefficient of restitution is commonly used to describe particle collisions. This study developed a new method based on magnetic particle tracking (MPT) to measure the restitution coefficient of magnetic particles, and validated it by comparing with image velocimetry. The results showed a high coincidence between the two methods, and the applicability of the MPT method in studying particle rotation was also demonstrated.

Collisional damping of spherical ice particles

Tobias Eidevag et al.

Summary: This paper presents experimental values for the coefficient of restitution (e(n)) for millimeter-sized ice particles colliding with massive walls at different temperatures. The results show a high sensitivity to impact velocity V-i, where e(n) decreases rapidly with increasing V-i, and also show a decrease in e(n) with increasing temperature T. A novel model is proposed that predicts e(n) based on collisional melting and viscous damping, capturing differences between wall materials.

Influence of the surface roughness on the collision behavior of fine particles in ambient fluids

Fabian Krull et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the influence of surface roughness on particle-wall collisions. Experimental results show that an increase in surface roughness leads to a decrease in coefficient of restitution in air, but an increase in water.

Simulation of the hydrate blockage process in a water-dominated system via the CFD-DEM method

Xu Duan et al.

Summary: In this study, numerical simulations using CFD and DEM were conducted to investigate hydrate blockage in deep-water pipelines. The interaction between hydrate particles and pipeline wall was considered, providing theoretical support for studying the hydrate blockage mechanism.
