The influence of height-to-width ratio of feed inlet on flow field characteristics and separation performance of the hydrocyclone with spiral inlet

Yuekan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the influence of the height-to-width ratio of the feed inlet on the separation performance of a hydrocyclone with spiral inlet using numerical simulation, and found that decreasing the ratio can improve separation efficiency. The highest separation accuracy was achieved when the ratio was 1:2, with a sharpness index of 0.61 for the classification efficiency curve.

Shuangcheng Fu et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the influence of cone angles on the separation of light dispersed plastics (PET) and heavy dispersed plastics (PVC) in a hydrocyclone. The results show that different cone angles have different effects on the separation performance, with the Newton efficiency reaching its peak at an optimum cone angle.

Multi-objective optimization of hydrocyclone by combining mechanistic and data-driven models

Qing Ye et al.

Summary: This paper presents a cost-effective method to optimize hydrocyclones used for particle separation. It integrates a mechanistic model with data-driven models to achieve reliable prediction and optimization. The method demonstrates its applicability by successfully optimizing the hydrocyclone geometry for low pressure drop and accurate particle separation, especially for fine particles.

Effect of particle concentration on turbulent modulation inside hydrocyclone using coupled MPPIC-VOF method

Mayank Kumar et al.

Summary: This study discusses the implementation of a coupled Multi-phase particle in cell method and Volume of Fluid flow solver to simulate particles in a fluid flow field with a free surface. By testing multiple sub-grid scale models, it was found that the dynamic k-equation model has the best-predicting capability for the mean and turbulent flow field. The study shows that even with low solid concentration, the fluctuating flow field increases substantially with varying particle concentration.

Numerical analysis on the effect of the length of arc-shaped vortex finder on the hydrocyclone's flow field and separation performance

Feng Li et al.

Summary: The use of an arc-shaped vortex finder in a hydrocyclone can effectively reduce short-circuit flow and improve particle separation. Increasing the arc length led to a rise and then a drop in tangential velocity and pressure drop, with the most efficient separation achieved at an arc length of 30 mm.

Summary: This paper numerically studies liquid-gas-solid three-phase flows in hydrocyclones using a coupled method of VOF and DEM with RSM turbulence model. The results show that the VOF-DEM model accurately captures the gas-liquid interface and depicts the formation process of the air-core. Additionally, the effects of particle concentration on air-core formation are systematically studied, with both positive and negative actions influencing the results.
