Thyroid hormone manipulation influences development of endothermy and hatching in white leghorn chickens (Gallus gallus)

Jessica Rippamonti et al.

Summary: Chickens experience changes in physiology and metabolism during hatching, and thyroid hormones play a key role in regulating these developmental changes. Manipulating thyroid hormone levels in chicken embryos affected the timing of hatching and influenced the bird's thermogenic response to cooling.

The effect of storage periods and SPIDES on embryonic mortality, hatching characteristics, and quality of newly hatched chicks in broiler eggs

H. M. Okasha et al.

Summary: The storage duration of eggs can have significant effects on embryo mortality, hatching characteristics, hatching time, and post-hatch chick quality. In this study, the effects of storage duration and a short incubation period during egg storage were investigated. The results showed that both storage duration and the short incubation period had significant impacts on embryo mortality, hatchability, and chick quality.

Influence of non-ventilating intervals during early incubation stage on egg hatching process

Wesam A. Fares et al.

Summary: The study aimed to investigate the effect of non-ventilated intervals during early embryonic development on the hatching process. The results showed that non-ventilation periods had positive effects on narrowing the spread of hatch, increasing hatched chick weight, and hatchability percentage.

Incubation Temperature and Lighting: Effect on Embryonic Development, Post-Hatch Growth, and Adaptive Response

Servet Yalcin et al.

Summary: During incubation, temperature and light are two key factors that affect embryo development and post-hatch performance. Optimizing incubation temperature can improve hatchability, while light during incubation can enhance embryo development, reduce stress responses, and improve cognitive functions of chickens.

Chicken Incubation Conditions: Role in Embryo Development, Physiology and Adaptation to the Post-Hatch Environment

K. Tona et al.

Summary: The quality and post-hatch performance of chickens are influenced by various factors during incubation, such as breeder management, egg storage conditions, and incubation conditions. This review paper discusses the effects of these incubation conditions on chick quality and post-hatch growth, as well as the parameters for determining chick quality. It concludes that classical physical conditions are necessary to improve hatchability, chick quality, and post-hatch growth.

Molecular investigations of the effect of thermal manipulation during embryogenesis on muscle heat shock protein 70 and thermotolerance in broiler chickens

Abdelhay Mohamed Ali et al.

Summary: The objective of this study was to determine the optimal timing of thermal manipulation during embryogenesis to enhance muscle thermotolerance. The results showed that thermal manipulation during embryonic days 7-11 significantly improved thermotolerance, as indicated by changes in body temperature and T3 levels. This improvement was accompanied by increased expression of Hsp70 mRNA and protein in both pectoral and thigh muscles, with stable nucleotide sequences. The findings suggest that thermal manipulation during this specific embryonic period can improve thermotolerance without adverse effects on performance.
