Advances in control technologies and mechanisms to treat peel browning in postharvest fruit

Wanli Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the main factors contributing to postharvest fruit peel browning, such as water loss, chilling injury, disease, and mechanical damage. It also discusses the potential biochemical mechanisms, including insufficient energy supply and reactive oxygen species (ROS) burst. This work updates the progress in methods to control postharvest fruit peel browning, providing an important reference for reducing fruit losses. Some small molecule substances with antioxidant activity and improved cell energy supply show promise in inhibiting peel browning, and combinations of conventional postharvest preservation methods may achieve better results.

Membrane lipid metabolism influences chilling injury during cold storage of peach fruit

Chunbo Song et al.

Summary: This study revealed the mechanism of chilling injury (CI) and protective mechanisms in peach fruit during storage at different low temperatures. It found that 4°C storage promoted the occurrence of CI and stimulated protective mechanisms, while 0°C delayed the occurrence of CI. These findings provide important insights into the understanding of CI and cold tolerance in peach fruit.

Chitosan oligosaccharide treatment improves quality attributes of tomato fruit stored under room temperature

Zhiyong Shao et al.

Summary: The effect of chitosan oligosaccharide (COS) on the quality of tomato during post-harvest storage was investigated. The results showed that COS treatment improved fruit quality by enhancing color, nutrient content, and flavor-associated volatiles. Additionally, COS treatment enhanced ethylene production and signaling, indicating its role in regulating fruit ripening and quality.

Benzothiadiazole treatment inhibits membrane lipid metabolism and straight-chain volatile compound release in Penicillium expansum-inoculated apple fruit

Di Gong et al.

Summary: BTH treatment maintains cell membrane integrity, affects membrane lipid metabolism and VOCs biosynthesis in infected fruit, thus reducing resistance against postharvest diseases. Additionally, BTH inhibits enzymes activities related to VOCs production, leading to a decrease in straight-chain VOCs release in the inoculated fruit.
