Changes of the microbial community in kiwifruit during storage after postharvest application of Wickerhamomyces anomalus

Qianhua Zhao et al.

Summary: This study found that Wickerhamomyces anomalus can control the postharvest disease of kiwifruit. High-throughput sequencing technology revealed that the changes in fungal composition and structure in the microbial community were greater than those of bacteria after W. anomalus treatment. W. anomalus can colonize inside the fruit and regulate the composition of bacterial community to reduce pathogen abundance and maintain fruit health.

Plant-associated Bacillus and Pseudomonas antimicrobial activities in plant disease suppression via biological control mechanisms-A review

Ivica Dimkic et al.

Summary: Biocontrol strains from the genera Bacillus and Pseudomonas play beneficial roles in plant health by directly inhibiting pathogens, promoting plant growth, inducing systemic resistance, and producing bioactive compounds like lipopeptides and volatile substances. These bacteria are effective against a wide range of phytopathogens and pests, enhancing plant defense mechanisms and inhibiting pathogen growth through various mechanisms like antibiosis, ISR, and competition for resources.

Aureobasidium pullulans S-2 reduced the disease incidence of tomato by influencing the postharvest microbiome during storage

Yu Shi et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the application of A. pullulans S-2 effectively controls postharvest diseases in tomatoes by inhibiting decay, maintaining fruit firmness, and reducing weight loss. The treatment group also showed changes in bacterial and fungal community composition, with certain pathogens being significantly reduced. This provides new insights into using microbial antagonists for controlling fruit diseases.

Efficacy of Debaryomyce hansenii in the biocontrol for postharvest soft rot of strawberry and investigation of the physiological mechanisms involved

Lina Zhao et al.

Summary: This study investigates the efficacy of antagonistic yeast Debaryomyce hansenii in controlling postharvest soft rot of strawberries caused by Rhizopus stolonifer. The results show that D. hansenii significantly reduces the incidence of postharvest soft rot, inhibits the germination of Rhizopus stolonifer spores, and induces increased activities of defense-related enzymes and substances in strawberries. This study suggests that D. hansenii has the potential to be used as a biocontrol agent for the management of postharvest soft rot of strawberries.

Debaryomyces nepalensis reduces fungal decay by affecting the postharvest microbiome during jujube storage

Xingmeng Lei et al.

Summary: D. nepalensis reduces postharvest decay and maintains the quality of jujube fruit. It alters the fungal community, but has little influence on the bacterial community. It decreases the abundance of pathogenic fungi and increases the beneficial bacteria.

Control of grey mould disease on strawberry using the effective agent, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens Y1

Chaw Ei Htwe Maung et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that Bacillus amyloliquefaciens Y1 can effectively inhibit the growth of Botrytis cinerea, reduce grey mould disease in strawberries, and promote plant growth. The induction of the defense enzyme beta-1,3-glucanase in Y1-treated plants may play a role in disease suppression.

In Tuber Biocontrol of Potato Late Blight by a Collection of Phenazine-1-Carboxylic Acid-Producing Pseudomonas spp.

Genevieve Leger et al.

Summary: Different PCA-producing Pseudomonas spp. strains exhibited varying levels of biocontrol activity against Phytophthora infestans in potato tuber bioassays. The quantities of PCA produced did not correlate with biocontrol activity, suggesting the presence of other genetic determinants potentially involved in controlling the pathogen. Genome mining identified siderophores, cyclic lipopeptides, and non-ribosomal peptide synthase and polyketide synthase hybrid clusters as potential factors in the biocontrol of Phytophthora infestans by phenazine-producing pseudomonads.
