Impact of the resident duty hours on in-training examination score: A nationwide study in Japan

Summary: This study found that a workweek of <60-65 hours was independently associated with lower performance among postgraduate residents, while increasing duty hours did not improve performance. A duty hours range of 60-65 hours per week may be the optimal balance for a resident's education and well-being.

Does regional quota status affect the performance of undergraduate medical students in Japan? A 10-year analysis

Summary: This study aims to explore whether there are differences in the academic performance of medical students based on their admission type and to assess the predictive power of entrance examinations on their performance. The results showed that regional quota students achieved higher cumulative grade point averages than general admissions students, despite their significantly lower scores on the National Center Test. High school grade point averages and gender played a significant role in predicting the cumulative grade point averages for each admission type.
