Crystalline Structures and Transitions of Poly(phthalazinone ether sulfone)/ Monomer Casting Nylon 6 Composites

The crystalline structures and transitions of PPES/MC nylon 6 composites were studied using WXRD and FTIR spectroscopy. WXRD analyses showed that raising the annealing temperature transformed the quenched samples from γ-form crystals to α-form crystals. Increasing the PPES content promoted the γ→α form transition, facilitating crystallization in the stable α-form crystal. FTIR analyses indicated that treating the pristine samples with aqueous I/KI transformed the α-form crystals to γ-form crystals. The inclusion of PPES hindered the α→γ form transition, promoting crystallization in the stable α-form crystal. Two consistent observations were made: PPES favored the α-form crystal in PPES/MC nylon 6 composites, and the crystalline transition mechanism involved the strong interactions between PPES and MC nylon 6 through anchored antiparallel chains hydrogen bonding of the α-form crystal.

WXRD analyses demonstrated that the & gamma;-form crystals of quenched samples could transform into & alpha;-form crystals by raising the annealing temperature. And increasing the PPES content promoted the & gamma;& RARR;& alpha; form transition, which was conducive to crystallizing in the stable & alpha;-form crystal.
