Effects of oxidative torrefaction on the physicochemical properties and pyrolysis products of hemicellulose in bamboo processing residues

Xiaobing Cao et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effects of oxidative torrefaction on hemicellulose and the distribution of pyrolysis products. It was found that lower torrefaction temperature and higher oxygen concentration produced solid products with higher heating value. Oxygen concentration also influenced the chemical properties of the torrefied hemicellulose, with lower oxygen content and atomic ratios observed at higher torrefaction temperature. The distribution of pyrolysis products varied with torrefaction conditions, with different temperatures and oxygen concentrations favoring the production of different chemical compounds.

A two-phase and long-lasting multi-antibacterial coating enables titanium biomaterials to prevent implants-related infections

Ruitian Lin et al.

Summary: In this study, a multi-layered antibacterial coating was constructed on titanium substrates using a modified layer-by-layer technique and dopamine polymerization. The coating exhibited a two-phase function, inhibiting infection during the early phase and promoting osteointegration during the later phase. It showed long-lasting antibacterial activity against main pathogenic bacteria for more than 3 months and displayed good biocompatibility and osteogenic differentiation capacity.
