Alignment of multiwalled carbon nanotubes-reinforced epoxy by a novel shear assisted method in the presence of the electric field

Erfan Moaseri et al.

Summary: The application of multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) alignment techniques using external fields is limited due to cost implications. To address this, a shear-assisted method is introduced to enhance the effectiveness of MWCNTs alignment using electric field. The effect of curing temperature of polymer in CNT-reinforced nanocomposites on MWCNTs alignment using shear-assisted technique is investigated, showing that higher curing temperature can improve the alignment by preventing agglomeration of MWCNTs in the matrix. Fractography of reinforced composites is also studied to examine the effects of curing temperature on MWCNTs alignment in the epoxy matrix.

Characteristics of electrical tree morphological in glass fibre reinforced epoxy resin under power frequency voltage

Yongqiang Wang et al.

Summary: This paper studied the influence of glass fibre arrangement on the growth morphology of electric dendrites, and experimental results show that the growth of electric dendrites is linear with multiple branches when the electric field is parallel to the glass fibres, while it is aggregated when the electric field is perpendicular to the glass fibres.

A reactive molecular dynamics study of the effects of an electric field on n-dodecane combustion

Efstratios M. Kritikos et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effect of externally applied electrostatic fields on the chemical kinetics of n-dodecane combustion at high temperatures through reactive Molecular Dynamics simulations. The results show that strong external electric fields are required to induce changes to the chemical kinetics, and the consumption rates of n-dodecane and oxygen exhibit different trends under various electrostatic field strengths. The kinetics of oxygen molecules play a primary role in determining the reaction behavior under external electrostatic fields.

AC Electric-Field Assistant Architecting Ordered Network of Ni@PS Microspheres in Epoxy Resin to Enhance Conductivity

Zhiliang Han et al.

Summary: In this study, nickel-coated polystyrene microspheres were assembled into a 3-dimensional network within epoxy resin with the assistance of an electric field, achieving a balance between low loading of conductor filler and high conductivity. The morphology evolution was observed using optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy, while the response speed of the microspheres to the electric field was investigated by measuring viscosity and shear stress variations. The alignment of the microspheres into a pearl-like structure significantly enhanced the conductivity compared to the pristine one, with a maximum enhancement achieved at 15 wt. % of microspheres.

Interface Modification, Water Absorption Behaviour and Mechanical Properties of Injection Moulded Short Hemp Fiber-Reinforced Thermoplastic Composites

Joao P. Manaia et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of maleic anhydride, stearic acid, and water absorption on short hemp fiber-reinforced thermoplastic composites. It was found that the addition of maleic anhydride and stearic acid improved water resistance and slightly increased flexural properties of composites based on a high-density polyethylene matrix. Water absorption was shown to follow the Fickian mode of diffusion, with degradation of matrix-fiber interfacial bonding leading to a reduction in flexural properties.

Microwave curing kinetics of carbon-fiber-reinforced epoxy composites by wet filament winding process

Mengying Li et al.

Summary: A high-performance compound epoxy resin system suitable for wet filament winding was designed with improved properties. Through comparing the curing behavior of thermal and microwave curing composites, it was found that microwave curing exhibited higher curing degree and reaction rate in the early and middle stages. However, in the later stages of curing, the difference between the two methods was minimal.
