Nonlinear optical properties of porphyrin-based covalent organic frameworks determined by steric-orientation of conjugation

Bin Liang et al.

Summary: This research revealed that two-dimensional (2D) conjugated organic frameworks (COFs) with well-extended pi-conjugated planes exhibited superior third-order nonlinear optical properties and stronger excited-state absorption. The study provides valuable inspiration for subsequent investigation on the structure-activity relationships by adjusting the conjugation orientation of COFs.

Synthetic Model for FRET Constructed from Covalently Linked Porphyrin Dimers through a Pyrene Bridge

Ruth Mariam Ipe et al.

Summary: We synthesized and characterized two porphyrin arrays, C6F5-PyZnDP and Mes-PyZnDP, linked by a pyrene moiety with different substituents at their meso-positions. The key precursor bis-dipyrromethane linked with a pyrene bridge was prepared. C6F5-PyZnDP was synthesized through two different routes, with one being more efficient, and both the free base and metalated diporphyrins showed bathochromically shifted absorption and intense red emission.

Photophysical and electrochemical properties of meso-tetrathien-2′-yl porphyrins compared to meso-tetraphenylporphyrin

Jessica S. O'Neill et al.

Summary: A series of novel porphyrins with tetra-meso-thien-2-yl groups were synthesized, and their photophysical properties were studied. Various techniques were used to investigate the electronic communication between the central Zn(II) porphyrin ring and different meso-substituent groups. The effect of the position and number of thienyl rings on the properties of these porphyrins was compared to zinc tetraphenylporphyrin (ZnTPP). The photochemically-driven antimicrobial activity of zinc(II)-5,10,15,20-tetra(thien-2 '-yl)porphyrin (ZnThPP) as a coating against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria was determined and compared to ZnTPP. Visible irradiation resulted in significant antimicrobial response.

Phenylene-linked tetrapyrrole arrays containing free base and diverse metal chelate forms - Versatile synthetic architectures for catalysis and artificial photosynthesis

Haoyu Jing et al.

Summary: Tetrapyrrole macrocycles play a central role in photosynthesis, and researchers have constructed arrays of these macrocycles to explore their photophysical properties and potential applications. Linking the macrocycles with phenylene units has been a common strategy in array chemistry, enabling rapid electron and energy transfer. The majority of studies have focused on porphyrins, with limited investigations on chlorins and bacteriochlorins. In addition to artificial photosynthesis, arrays chemistry also holds potential for catalytic applications.
