Citrate-induced local ionized calcium decrease in pediatric hemodialysis settings: An in-vitro study

Gregor Novljan et al.

Summary: The study revealed that leaking of 30% concentrated citrate caused a significant decrease in Ca2+ at the catheter tip compared to the standard 4% citrate. Atrial volume did not affect the test results, suggesting similar safety concerns for pediatric and adult patients. The use of a static experimental setting may have overestimated the spilling effect.
