Does continuing professional development enhance patient care? A survey of Irish based general practitioners Successful implementation of mandatory CPD in Irish General Practice

Summary: This article discusses the regulation of mandatory continuing professional development for doctors by the Irish Medical Council and explores the impact of CPD on patient care. A survey conducted among general practitioners found that the majority considered CPD to be beneficial to patient care. Collapsing Categories is Often More Advantageous than Modeling Sparse Data: Investigations in the CFA Framework

Measuring impacts of continuing professional development (CPD): The development of the CPD impacts survey (CPDIS)

Barriers to and facilitators of endorsement for scheduled medicines in podiatry: a qualitative descriptive study

Summary: The study highlights the various barriers and facilitators that exist for podiatrists seeking endorsement for scheduled medicines, including competence and autonomy, social and workplace influences, and extrinsic motivators. Factors such as workplace and social networks, mentorship, and access to supervised training opportunities were found to be important for engagement, while a lack of financial incentive, training cost and time, and knowledge of requirements were identified as influential barriers. Recommendations for a more structured training process and increasing the number of endorsed podiatrists to serve as role models and mentors were suggested.
