Fine structure of streamer-to-filament transition in high-pressure nanosecond surface dielectric barrier discharge

Ch Ding et al.

Summary: The fine structure of a streamer-to-filament transition in a high-voltage nanosecond surface dielectric barrier discharge in molecular nitrogen at pressure P = 6 bar was investigated using ICCD microimaging. An intermediate discharge structure, existing for only a few nanoseconds, was observed between two discharge modes: streamer discharge and filamentary discharge. The structure consists of thin channels propagating faster than the main ionization front and transforms into a bi-directional ionization wave. The study provides important insights into the nature of the streamer-to-filament transition.

Filament Formation Mechanism for a Nanosecond Surface Barrier Discharge of Positive Polarity in Nitrogen

V. R. Soloviev

Summary: In this study, the development of a surface barrier discharge in nitrogen with 0.1 wt % O-2 impurity is numerically simulated. It is found that a thin plasma layer with increasing density is formed under specific voltage and nitrogen pressure conditions. This layer develops at the streamer boundary facing the dielectric and moves towards the dielectric surface over time.

Simulation of ionization-wave discharges: a direct comparison between the fluid model and E-FISH measurements

Yifei Zhu et al.

Summary: In this study, numerical modeling and experimental measurements of diffusive and fast ionization wave discharge experiments were conducted, using E-FISH data and a classical fluid model. The classical fluid method was found to be capable of accurately modeling the inception, propagation, and breakdown stages of the ionization waves, achieving good agreement between calculation and measurement within its application range.
