Evolution of ionization waves in a multi-pulsed plasma jet: the role of memory charges

N. Yu Babaeva et al.

Summary: In this study, the properties of ionization waves (IWs) in a multi-pulsed plasma jet were investigated using a two-dimensional computational approach. The IWs were generated by applying three short negative pulses with a repetition frequency of 12.5 MHz. The simulations accounted for both surface charges and space charges accumulated inside and outside the tube. It was found that IWs could emerge from the tube exit at both the rising and falling edges of the pulses, and the remnants of charges played a crucial role in the discharge evolution. The IWs generated by the second pulse significantly increased the plasma plume length, while those generated by the third pulse eventually decayed due to the accumulated charges from previous pulses, which could lead to the extinction of IWs.

A novel designed 3D multi-microhole plasma jet device driven by nanosecond pulse at atmospheric pressure

Zhijie Liu et al.

Summary: This study develops a novel three-dimensional multi-microhole helium plasma jet device and investigates the discharge characteristics and formation mechanisms of the 3D plasma jets. The results show that the 3D plasma jets have a hexagonal-like structure and high yield of reactive species. The direct treatment of water using this device can produce plasma activated water with higher concentrations of reactive oxygen and nitrogen species. This technique has promising applications for water activation.

The role of surface charge and its decay in surface dielectric barrier discharges

Ting Li et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigates the charge accumulation and decay in SDBDs driven by a combination of sine AC voltage waveform and nanosecond positive voltage pulse. It is found that the accumulation of positive charge promotes the discharge in the negative half cycle, while inhibiting the development of new positive charge filaments. The decay of a single positive charge filament is a result of neutralization by negative charges from either the migration of negative surface charge or the drift of free electrons.

Pulse-width-dependent dynamic charge deposition on quartz dielectrics interacted with atmospheric pressure He plasma jet

Bo Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the surface charging phenomenon on quartz dielectrics by a He APPJ under varying pulse widths and voltage magnitudes. Results show that ionization waves and quartz dielectric interaction result in a round positive charge deposition, with the charge lifetime greatly dependent on the pulse widths. An interesting polarity reversal occurs under longer pulses, where the positive charge decreases on pulse-on and more negative charges appear on pulse-off. This study provides insights into the mechanisms of charge maintenance and polarity reversal in plasma surface interaction.

Interaction of helium plasma jet with tilted targets: consequences of target permittivity, conductivity and incidence angle

Natalia Yu Babaeva et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the interaction of a helium plasma jet with dielectric plates at different angles and explains how the treatment area is affected by the conductivity and dielectric properties of the plate. The results show that for certain conductivity levels, the treatment properties are mostly determined by the dielectric permittivity of the plate.

Multi-effects of atmospheric He/CF4 plasma jet treatment on the surface properties of epoxy resin

Sile Chen et al.

Summary: Surface fluorination by low-temperature plasma treatment can enhance the surface electrical strength of insulating materials. The performance of modified materials is influenced by operation parameters, leading to different physical and chemical changes on the surface properties. Adjusting plasma exposure time, applied voltage, and CF4 volume fraction can affect the multi-effects caused by the various processes in the interface between plasma and material surface.

Mode transition in 1D He plasma jet arrays dominated by hydrodynamic interaction

Bo Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates two modes, coupling and collimated modes, in one-dimensional ns-pulsed He plasma jet arrays. Experimental results reveal that the transition between the two modes is mainly determined by fluid dynamics interactions in the system, with the coupling mode dependent on hydrodynamic effects and the collimated mode influenced by electrostatic repellence.
