Plasma-enhanced evaporation and its impact on plasma properties and gaseous chemistry in a pin-to-water pulsed discharge

Qi Yang et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effect of evaporation on plasma-liquid interactions. Diagnostic methods such as laser-induced fluorescence and high-resolution optical emission spectroscopy are used to determine key plasma parameters. The spatial and temporal behaviors of water vapor and OH radicals are analyzed, and the mechanisms of how water vapor affects the observed behaviors of OH radicals are understood through simulation based on experimental data.

Plasma dynamics, instabilities and OH generation in a pulsed atmospheric pressure plasma with liquid cathode: a diagnostic study

Yuanfu Yue et al.

Summary: This work investigates the impact of the interaction between positive pulsed DC atmospheric pressure plasma jet with He-0.1% H2O mixture and liquid cathode on the plasma morphology and OH generation. The results show that plasma instabilities and enhanced evaporation have a significant influence on the OH generation. At higher plasma energies, the plasma contracts due to thermal instability, leading to a decrease in OH density in the core, while at lower plasma energies, the instability is suppressed by the equivalent series resistor of the liquid electrode.

Quantification of plasma produced OH and electron fluxes at the liquid anode and their role in plasma driven solution electrochemistry

Yuanfu Yue et al.

Summary: This study reports on the interaction of a pulsed atmospheric pressure glow-like discharge with a liquid anode. The role of hydroxyl (OH) radicals and electrons in plasma-enabled redox chemistry in solution was investigated. The results show that the OH density near the liquid surface changes with increasing plasma power, leading to oxidation-reduction reactions in the liquid solution.

Electron density and electron temperature measurements in an atmospheric pressure plasma interacting with liquid anode

Yuanfu Yue et al.

Summary: Plasma driven solution electrochemistry has attracted attention for various applications, including nanomaterial synthesis. This study investigated the electron density and temperature of a negative pulsed DC discharge in helium with N-2 shielding gas using Thomson scattering spectroscopy. The results showed stable radial plasma contraction and plasma-enhanced N-2 mixing. It was also observed that the plasma enhanced N-2 mixing significantly affected the plasma morphology and electron properties. The increase in electron temperature near the anode surface suggested the presence of hot electrons and their potential role in non-equilibrium electron-driven reactions in the liquid phase.

Spatially and temporally resolved H and OH densities in a nanosecond pulsed plasma jet: an analysis of the radical generation, transport, recombination and memory effects

Yuanfu Yue et al.

Summary: This study measured the density of hydroxyl and hydrogen radicals in an APPJ device operating in a He-H2O mixture using various fluorescence techniques and found that they are mainly generated between the electrodes. The produced H and OH are then convectively transported to the jet effluent, determining the densities in the effluent.

The scaling of kinetic and transport behaviors in the solution-phase chemistry of a plasma-liquid interface

Hernan E. Delgado et al.

Summary: The study reveals that a characteristic transition time can be determined through mathematical analysis for the transition from efficient scavenger reduction or oxidation to lower efficiencies. When scavenger kinetics are faster than second-order recombination, this characteristic time scales proportionally with scavenger diffusivity and the square of scavenger bulk concentration, and inversely with the square of the electron flux.
