Interaction between energetic-ions and internal kink modes in a weak shear tokamak plasma

Xiaolong Zhu et al.

Summary: Based on the M3D-K code, the linear and nonlinear properties of non-resonant kink mode (NRK) and non-resonant fishbone instability (NRFB) in reversed shear tokamak plasmas are investigated. It is found that passing energetic ions can destabilize NRFB, and the NRK transitions to NRFB when the energetic-ion beta exceeds a critical value.

Influence of adiabatic response of passing energetic ions on high-frequency fishbone

Haozhe Kong et al.

Summary: This study examines the effects of adiabatic response on the high-frequency fishbone instability driven by passing energetic ions. Numerical analysis shows that the adiabatic contribution stabilizes the mode and reduces its frequency. The previous research is relatively inaccurate.

Linear hybrid simulations of low-frequency fishbone instability driven by energetic passing particles in tokamak plasmas

Jixing Yang et al.

Summary: A linear simulation study of energetic passing particle-driven low-frequency fishbone instability in tokamak plasmas was conducted using the global kinetic-MHD hybrid code M3D-K. The focus was on the interaction of energetic passing beam ions and the n = 1 mode, with calculations of stability, mode frequency, and mode structure for different parameter values. The results show that the excited modes are identified as a low-frequency fishbone with specific resonances.

Frequency multiplication with toroidal mode number of kink/fishbone modes on a static HL-2A-like tokamak

Zhihui Zou et al.

Summary: Through simulation, it is found that the long-lived mode frequency on HL-2A can multiply with the toroidal mode number in the presence of energetic particles (EPs). The frequency increases almost linearly with EP pressure and is proportional to the mode number ('frequency multiplication'), even without equilibrium plasma rotation. The growth rate of higher-n modes becomes dominant as the EP pressure increases, indicating that they are more vulnerable to EPs.

PTC: Full and Drift Particle Orbit Tracing Code for α Particles in Tokamak Plasmas

Feng Wang et al.

Summary: The study focuses on the confinement of fusion-born alpha particles in burning plasmas, utilizing numerical codes and particle orbit tracing methods to analyze energetic particle behavior and interactions within tokamak plasmas. Benchmarking and verification with other codes have been conducted, with plans to investigate 3D field effects on alpha particle transport in future work.
