Dynamics of ultralow-q plasmas in the RFX-mod device

M. Zuin et al.

Summary: This study presents the results of an experimental activity conducted in the RFX-mod device to characterize plasma dynamics in the Ultralow-q magnetic configuration with an edge safety factor below 1. The role of the edge safety factor in determining plasma dynamics is studied, and the results are compared to nonlinear 3D visco-resistive MHD simulations, showing good quantitative agreement. Magnetic reconnection and the presence of a single dominant mode in the magnetic spectra of ULq plasmas are confirmed by the experiment.

Measurement of helicity flux density using the eddy-current diagnostic system in Keda Torus eXperiment device

Zheng Chen et al.

Summary: This study measures and analyzes the eddy currents on the stabilizing shell of a reversed-field pinch (RFP) device, obtaining distributions of important physical quantities for suppressing plasma instabilities. The experimental results suggest that the plasma mediates both the generation and transport of magnetic helicity during the discharge, with the distribution of magnetic helicity flux density primarily influenced by instabilities on the boundary.

Design and Analysis of Halo Current Diagnostic for RFX-mod2

Matteo Bonotto et al.

Summary: During the experimental campaign of RFX-mod2, a set of Halo Sensors (HSs) will be installed to measure and characterize the distribution of halo currents in the device. By using a resistive shunt made of a high precision resistive element and copper fixing elements, the measurement of halo currents can be achieved. The research is of great importance for understanding the current distribution in Reverse Field Pinch (RFP) and tokamak operations.

The reversed field pinch

L. Marrelli et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the research on the reversed field pinch (RFP) in the last three decades, highlighting substantial experimental and theoretical progress achieved. The experimental community in various countries has achieved impressive performance improvements through exploration of high current operation and active control of the current profile. The development of state-of-art active feedback control systems has been a crucial factor in the advancements obtained in the experiments.
