A glutathione S-transferase GhTT19 determines flower petal pigmentation via regulating anthocyanin accumulation in cotton

Qichao Chai et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that the red petal phenotype in cotton was introgressed from Gossypium bickii through recombination with the segment containing the R-3 (bic) region in the A07 chromosome. The major anthocyanin in red petals was cyanidin-3-O-glucoside (Cy3G). Allelic variations in the promoters between GhTT19(LW) and GhTT19(LR) were identified as the genetic cause of petal color variations.

The R3-Type MYB Transcription Factor BrMYBL2.1 Negatively Regulates Anthocyanin Biosynthesis in Chinese Cabbage (Brassica rapa L.) by Repressing MYB-bHLH-WD40 Complex Activity

JiYeon Kim et al.

Summary: BrMYBL2.1-G is identified as a key negative regulator of anthocyanin biosynthesis, inhibiting the transcriptional activity of anthocyanin biosynthetic genes and blocking the activity of the MBW complex. In contrast, BrMYBL2.1-P cannot exert this inhibitory effect, resulting in increased anthocyanin accumulation.

Increasing Fruit Weight by Editing a Cis-Regulatory Element in Tomato KLUH Promoter Using CRISPR/Cas9

Qiang Li et al.

Summary: CRISPR/Cas-mediated cis-engineering of CYP78A members by editing the KLUH promoter in tomato resulted in the generation of several mutant alleles, five of which showed a significant increase in fruit weight and a decrease in the proportion of small fruits. Specifically, the m2(+4bp) and m3(+1bp) homozygotes exhibited the most significant increase in fruit weight. The study also found that allele types and transcriptional changes were poor predictors of changes in fruit weight.

Anthocyanin Biosynthesis Induced by MYB Transcription Factors in Plants

Changxia Li et al.

Summary: Anthocyanins are polyphenolic pigments found widely in plants. They have antioxidant properties and play a protective role against both abiotic and biotic stresses. Recent studies have shown that MYB transcription factors (MYB TFs) can positively or negatively regulate the biosynthesis of anthocyanins. Understanding the roles of MYB TFs is crucial in explaining how they regulate the accumulation of anthocyanins. In this review, the signaling pathways involved in anthocyanin biosynthesis mediated by MYB TFs are summarized, including jasmonic acid signaling, cytokinins signaling, temperature-induced signaling, light signal, 26S proteasome pathway, NAC TFs, and bHLH TFs. The structural and regulator genes induced by MYB TFs, target genes bound and activated or suppressed by MYB TFs, and the crosstalk between MYB TFs and other proteins are found to be vital in the regulation of anthocyanin biosynthesis.
