Role of sugar and auxin crosstalk in plant growth and development

Bhuwaneshwar Sharan Mishra et al.

Summary: In the natural environment, plants utilize sugar molecules and phytohormones to coordinate growth and survival, affecting physiological processes from seed germination to senescence. Sugars not only serve as energy resources and structural components but also function as signaling molecules interacting with plant hormones, stress, and other pathways. Phytohormone auxin plays a crucial role in various stages of the plant life cycle and response to dynamic environments for optimal growth and development.

Seed priming with protein hydrolysate promotes seed germination via reserve mobilization, osmolyte accumulation and antioxidant systems under PEG-induced drought stress

Weixuan Wang et al.

Summary: This study found that seed priming with pig blood protein hydrolysate can enhance tomato seed germination and seedling growth under drought conditions. This is achieved through regulation of reserve mobilization, osmotic adjustment, and antioxidant mechanism.

Drought-Induced Oxidative Stress in Pearl Millet (Cenchrus americanus L.) at Seedling Stage: Survival Mechanisms through Alteration of Morphophysiological and Antioxidants Activity

Shuvasish Choudhury et al.

Summary: We investigated the effects of drought stress on pearl millet seedlings and its survival mechanism. Our results showed that drought stress led to significant changes in morphophysiological attributes and degradation of chlorophyll pigment in pearl millet seedlings. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels were elevated and membrane lipids were peroxidized, indicating oxidative stress induced by ROS. The activities of antioxidant enzymes and levels of non-enzymatic antioxidants were inhibited, suggesting a loss of antioxidant defense machinery. These findings suggest that pearl millet is highly susceptible to drought stress at the early seedling stage, despite its tolerance to arid climates.

Drought stress responses and inducing tolerance by seed priming approach in plants

Debanjana Saha et al.

Summary: Field crops are vulnerable to drought, which poses a threat to global food security. Seed priming is a promising approach to enhance plants' tolerance to drought stress. This review explores the adaptation and tolerance mechanisms of drought stress at physiological, biochemical, and molecular levels, as well as discusses the challenges and opportunities of seed priming in crop stress management.

Diethyl Aminoethyl Hexanoate Priming Ameliorates Seed Germination via Involvement in Hormonal Changes, Osmotic Adjustment, and Dehydrins Accumulation in White Clover Under Drought Stress

Muhammad Jawad Hassan et al.

Summary: DA-6 significantly improved seed germination of white clover under drought stress by mitigating the decrease in germination parameters and altering the endogenous phytohormones, starch catabolism, antioxidant activity, and dehydrin accumulation. The findings suggest that DA-6 plays a crucial role in enhancing drought tolerance during seed germination by modulating multiple physiological and molecular mechanisms.
