Jasmonate activates a CsMPK6-CsMYC2 module that regulates the expression of β-citraurin biosynthetic genes and fruit coloration in orange (Citrus sinensis)

Pengtao Yue et al.

Summary: Carotenoids are natural pigments that influence the color of citrus fruit. Treatment with methyl jasmonate (MeJA) significantly promotes fruit coloration and beta-citraurin production in Newhall orange by activating the CsMPK6-CsMYC2 cascade.

Integrative analyses of transcriptome and carotenoids profiling revealed molecular insight into variations in fruits color of Citrus Reticulata Blanco induced by transplantation

Qichun Huang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect of transplantation on the coloring of citrus fruits using RNA-Seq and carotenoid profiling. The results showed that transplantation led to a shallowing of fruit color and changes in hormone and carotenoid levels. RNA sequencing identified differentially expressed genes involved in fruit coloring, providing insights into the molecular mechanisms.

Mitigating magnesium deficiency for sustainable citrus production: A case study in Southwest China

Yuheng Wang et al.

Summary: Citrus is the largest fruit crop globally and magnesium deficiency is becoming a major issue for sustainable citrus production, especially in China. A study in a typical citrus production county in Southwest China revealed high rates of magnesium deficiency in soil and leaf samples. Field experiments showed that optimizing nutrient management based on crop demand and supply can help mitigate magnesium deficiency in citrus orchards.

Late-Season Sweet Orange Selections Under Huanglongbing and Citrus Canker Endemic Conditions in the Brazilian Humid Subtropical Region

Deived Uilian de Carvalho et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the horticultural traits of 19 late-season sweet orange selections under citrus canker and huanglongbing (HLB) endemic conditions. The results showed that Natal IAC, Folha Murcha IAC, IPR Folha Murcha, Natal Murcha, Campbell 479 Valencia and Valencia Late Fla. had the best horticultural performance and low HLB incidence. These late-season sweet oranges are the most advantageous selections for citrus orchard diversification under citrus canker and HLB endemic conditions in humid subtropical regions.

Transcriptome and Metabolome Analysis Reveals the Effect of Nitrogen-Potassium on Anthocyanin Biosynthesis in Fuji Apple

Xinxiang Xu et al.

Summary: Nitrogen and potassium have significant effects on apple peel color. High nitrogen treatment decreases fruit red color and anthocyanin content, while potassium promotes 13C transportation to fruits and alleviates the inhibition of red color synthesis. Genes and metabolites related to anthocyanin synthesis pathway are also regulated by N and K.

Elevated CO2 delayed yellowing by maintaining chlorophyll biosynthesis and inhibiting chlorophyll degradation and carotenoid accumulation of postharvest broccoli

Yuxiao Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the effect and mechanism of elevated CO2 treatment on pigment metabolism in postharvest broccoli. The results showed that 30% CO2 treatment could delay yellowing by reducing chlorophyll loss and carotenoid accumulation, thereby maintaining higher nutritional quality. It was also found that elevated CO2 treatment up-regulated chlorophyll synthesis genes and down-regulated chlorophyll degradation genes in postharvest broccoli.

Effect of magnesium application on the fruit coloration and sugar accumulation of navel orange (Citrus sinensis Osb.)

Xiaoman Liu et al.

Summary: This study found that the application of magnesium fertilizer at the appropriate dosage can significantly improve the yield and quality of navel oranges. The best results were achieved with a dosage of 150 g MgO per plant. The application of magnesium fertilizer increased the sucrose content in the pulp and decreased the chlorophyll content in the peel, promoting fruit ripening.

Proper irrigation amount for eggplant cultivation in a solar greenhouse improved plant growth, fruit quality and yield by influencing the soil microbial community and rhizosphere environment

Tuo Ji et al.

Summary: Water scarcity is a global issue, and reducing irrigation can improve soil fertility and crop yield by regulating the root microenvironment. In this study, a 10% irrigation reduction treatment significantly improved soil nutrients and increased microbial community richness, leading to improved plant growth and fruit yield in eggplant cultivation. The findings highlight the importance of plant-microbe interactions in enhancing irrigation efficiency and reducing agricultural costs.

Molecular mechanisms for magnesium-deficiency-induced leaf vein lignification, enlargement and cracking in Citrus sinensis revealed by RNA-Seq

Xin Ye et al.

Summary: Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck seedlings were grown under magnesium-sufficiency or magnesium-deficiency conditions for 16 weeks, with RNA-Seq analysis revealing differentially expressed genes in the veins of upper and lower leaves. Factors contributing to magnesium-deficiency-induced lignification, enlargement, and cracking in lower leaves include upregulation of genes related to lignin biosynthesis pathways and activation of reactive oxygen species and phytohormone signaling. Proteome and transcriptome analysis showed a correlation between protein and transcript levels in response to magnesium deficiency.
