Three Novel Adenylate Cyclase Genes Show Significant Biological Functions in Plant

Zhiguo Liu et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated plant adenylate cyclases using Chinese jujube, a plant with high cAMP content. Three novel ACs were identified and their functions were confirmed using in vitro and in vivo methods. Overexpression of these AC genes in Arabidopsis resulted in accelerated seed germination, root growth, and flowering. Transcriptome data suggested that the biological functions of ACs may be mediated through the regulation of key genes involved in the circadian rhythm pathway and hormone signal transduction pathway. This research lays the foundation for further studying plant AC genes and provides strong evidence for cAMP serving as a signaling molecule in plants.

BdGUCD1 and Cyclic GMP Are Required for Responses of Brachypodium distachyon to Fusarium pseudograminearum in the Mechanism Involving Jasmonate

Maria Duszyn et al.

Summary: cGMP is an important signaling molecule in plants, involved in responses to pathogen infections and environmental factors. In Brachypodium distachyon, infection leads to changes in BdGUCD1 mRNA levels and endogenous cGMP levels, which are related to alarm reactions induced by pathogen infection and affect jasmonic acid content.

Adenylate cyclase activity of TIR1/AFB auxin receptors in plants

Linlin Qi et al.

Summary: The phytohormone auxin is a crucial signal in plant development, and its transcriptional reprogramming is mediated through a canonical signaling pathway. The TIR1/AFB receptors, in addition to their known function as auxin receptors, also possess adenylate cyclase (AC) activity. Mutations in the AC motif of the TIR1 C-terminal region affect the receptor's function, leading to impaired gravitropism and auxin-induced growth inhibition in plants.

Functional Crypto-Adenylate Cyclases Operate in Complex Plant Proteins

Inas Al-Younis et al.

Summary: An amino acid search motif based on annotated ACs identified 12 unique Arabidopsis thaliana candidate ACs, with some involved in ABA biosynthesis. The study suggests the existence of "crypto-ACs" as low-activity ACs within multi-domain moonlighting proteins, potentially linking cAMP to ABA synthesis within complex plant proteins.

A new adenylyl cyclase, putative disease-resistance RPP13-like protein 3, participates in abscisic acid-mediated resistance to heat stress in maize

Hao Yang et al.

Summary: This study identified a novel AC protein, ZmRPP13-LK3, which catalyzes ATP to produce cAMP and plays a role in ABA-regulated heat resistance. The results demonstrate that ZmRPP13-LK3 interacts with ZmABC2 and is associated with the ABA signaling pathway.
