A recent discovery of a protein called HT1 has been found to cause continuous opening of stomata due to its kinase activity. However, the reversible interaction between MAP4/12 and HT1 protein acts as a CO2/bicarbonate sensor and inhibits HT1 kinase activity, resulting in the closing of stomata.
