Abelmoschus Manihot ameliorates the levels of circulating metabolites in diabetic nephropathy by modulating gut microbiota in non-obese diabetes mice

Ruiya Shi et al.

Summary: In this study, Huangkui capsule (HKC) was found to ameliorate diabetic nephropathy (DN) in non-obese diabetic (NOD) mice. HKC had a significant impact on the flora in the small intestine, while the flora in the colon had a greater effect on metabolism. Certain bacterial genera increased after HKC treatment and were negatively correlated with altered metabolites, while others showed the opposite trend. Plasma metabolites, including amino acids and fatty acids, returned to normal levels after HKC treatment. This study provides experimental evidence of HKC's ability to modulate gut microbiota and improve metabolite levels in DN.

Renoprotective potential of myo-inositol on diabetic kidney disease: Focus on the role of the PINK1/Parkin pathway and mitophagy receptors

Bhoomika Sherkhane et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the protective role of myo-inositol (MI) against diabetic nephropathy (DN) and found that MI supplementation improved renal function and ameliorated albuminuria. In addition, the study revealed that MI treatment reversed poor mitophagy in renal cells and upregulated mitophagy proteins. Furthermore, MI enhanced mitochondrial biogenesis in renal tissue through the regulation of Nrf2/SIRT1/PGC-1 alpha axis.
