An Update on Phytochemistry and Biological Activities of Cinnamomum

Meiting Wu et al.

Summary: The genus Cinnamomum, belonging to the family Lauraceae, consists of approximately 250 species. Cinnamomum plants have significant economic value and are extensively utilized in the pharmaceutical, chemical, food, and cosmetic industries. Although research on the chemical constituents and biological activities of only 20 species of Cinnamomum has been conducted, the chemical structures and bioactivities of terpenoids from this genus have already been summarized. This paper provides an update on other types of compounds and their respective biological activities, summarizing a total of 380 chemical compounds, including lignans, butanolides, flavonoids, phenylpropanoids, alkaloids, and other compounds, obtained from Cinnamomum.
