Associations between intestinal microbiota, fecal properties, and dietary fiber conditions: The Japanese traditional medicine Junchoto ameliorates dietary fiber deficit-induced constipation with F/B ratio alteration in rats

Taro Oshiro et al.

Summary: This study examined the influence of fiber diets on fecal microbiota and properties in rats, as well as the effectiveness of the Japanese traditional medicine Junchoto in treating constipation caused by fiber deficit. The results showed that short-term dietary changes can modulate microbial homeostasis and improve fecal properties, and Junchoto may improve fecal properties by altering the microbial ratio.

Gut Microbiota Composition Changes in Constipated Women of Reproductive Age

Hongxia Li et al.

Summary: This study found significant differences in the gut microbiota of constipated women of reproductive age compared to healthy controls, with an increase in Bacteroides and a decrease in Proteobacteria. The overall composition of the gut microbiota was also different, as reflected in the ratios of Firmicutes to Bacteroidetes (F/B), which were lower in the constipated group. Furthermore, there was a significant decrease in butyrate-producing bacteria in constipated women.

Effects of Malted Rice Amazake on Constipation Symptoms and Gut Microbiota in Children and Adults with Severe Motor and Intellectual Disabilities: A Pilot Study

Suzumi Kageyama et al.

Summary: This study showed that the intake of malted rice amazake can significantly improve constipation symptoms and alter the gut microbiota in patients with severe motor and intellectual disabilities. However, the effects may vary depending on the individual's original gut microbiota composition.

High-Fiber, Whole-Food Dietary Intervention Alters the Human Gut Microbiome but Not Fecal Short-Chain Fatty Acids

Andrew Oliver et al.

Summary: The study conducted a 2-week dietary fiber intervention, which showed that increasing fiber intake can significantly alter the composition of individual gut microbiomes, including increasing the abundance of known fiber-degrading microbes.
