Transport properties of the electronic states in the gate voltage-modulated skyrmion crystal

Jianhua Gong et al.

Summary: In this work, the transport properties of electronic states in a gate voltage-modulated skyrmion crystal (SkX) were investigated. The dynamics of conducting electrons in the SkX can be described by the double-exchange model or the t-J model, with the t term representing the hopping energy of electrons and the J term representing the strength of the on-site Hund's coupling. The band structure of the conducting electrons in the SkX shares similar topological properties with gapped graphene, such as its cone-like shape and nonzero band Chern number.

Majorana bound states with chiral magnetic textures

Utkan Guengoerdue et al.

Summary: The aim of this tutorial is to provide an introduction to the realization of Majorana bound states (MBSs) in condensed matter systems with magnetic textures. The tutorial discusses the Kitaev chain model and its two-dimensional generalization, emphasizing the relation between topological superconductivity and the realization of MBS. It also explores how spinless fermions can be realized in physical systems and how magnetic textures can induce synthetic spin-orbit interactions to stabilize MBS. The tutorial further demonstrates the use of skyrmions to stabilize MBS and perform braiding operations.

Embedded topological semimetals

Saavanth Velury et al.

Summary: This study examines embedded topological semimetals in insulating systems by introducing crystal defects, which can harbor lower-dimensional topological semimetals in an otherwise trivial insulating background. Specifically, defect-bound topological semimetals can be localized on stacking faults and partial dislocations. Furthermore, a method is proposed to identify an embedded topological Dirac semimetal experimentally by introducing a magnetic field and observing the relativistic massless Dirac Landau level spectrum.

Topological superconductivity induced by magnetic texture crystals

Daniel Steffensen et al.

Summary: We present a detailed investigation of the topological phases and Majorana fermion (MF) excitations that arise from the bulk interplay between (un)conventional one- and two-band spin-singlet superconductivity and a number of magnetic texture crystals. Our analysis reveals a multitude of accessible topological phases with distinct edge modes, originating from the interplay between topological phases with gapped and nodal bulk energy spectra.

Topological superconductivity in skyrmion lattices

Eric Mascot et al.

Summary: The research demonstrates the unprecedented ability to control the emergence of topological phases by changing the skyrmion radius in two-dimensional MSH systems containing a magnetic skyrmion lattice. Josephson scanning tunneling spectroscopy spatially visualizes the induced spin-triplet correlations, a crucial aspect underlying the emergence of topological superconductivity in these systems.

Aspects of Topological Superconductivity in 2D Systems: Noncollinear Magnetism, Skyrmions, and Higher-order Topology

A. O. Zlotnikov et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the topological superconductivity in two-dimensional systems without spin-orbit interaction, emphasizing on long-range noncollinear spin ordering or magnetic skyrmions. It also introduces the concept of higher-order topology, including the role of effective triplet pairings and odd fermion parity in ground state wave functions in different systems. Discussing the formation of Majorana modes due to magnetic textures and the peculiarities of magnetic skyrmions in relation to Majorana modes and defects. The problem of braiding in higher-order topological superconductors is also considered.

Topological phase transitions driven by topological number change and next-nearest-neighbor hopping in skyrmion crystals

Jianhua Gong et al.

Summary: This work focused on the relation of topological properties to the next-nearest-neighbor hopping, exchange coupling strength, and the topological number of the skyrmion crystal. Changes in these parameters led to phase transitions and reshaped the flux pattern of the emergent magnetic field, affecting the topological Hall effect. Results obtained in the adiabatic limit were found to hold in a certain range of exchange coupling strength.
