Ultrafast metamaterial all-optical switching based on coherent modulation

Tianrang Wang et al.

Summary: We report a demonstration of an ultrafast all-optical switching with unique light control effects. The switching device effectively controls the transmission and absorption of continuous pulses and short pulses, achieving high output control and modulation bandwidth. This study provides a new structure for ultra-high speed optical data processing components in coherent networks.

Design and analysis of a plasmonic split rings metasurface using characteristic mode theory for optical sensing

Atefeh Gholami et al.

Summary: This paper presents a plasmonic metasurface with switching capability and serves as a quantum switch and optical sensor. Kerr material and dimer split ring resonator are utilized to achieve the switching characteristic. The Characteristic Mode Theory is employed to predict the occurrence of Fano response and the exact location is determined using eigenvalues. The proposed metasurface shows potential for high sensitivity optical sensing applications.

Dual-controlled tunable dual-band and ultra-broadband coherent perfect absorber in the THz range

Zexuan Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a tunable, polarization-independent coherent perfect absorber based on vanadium dioxide metamaterial in the terahertz frequency range. The designed absorber can switch from an ultra-broadband absorber mode to a dual-band absorber mode via thermally controlled VO2. The proposed absorber has potential applications in stealth devices, all-optical switches, and coherent photodetectors.

Ultrafast all-optical metamaterial terahertz switch by exploiting nanoparticle-enriched substrate nonlinearity and graphene resonators

Nasrollah Karampour et al.

Summary: The emergence of graphene with unique optical properties has led to the proposal of a new THz switch that utilizes the optical Kerr effect. The structure achieves high absorption values and a fast switching time, making it an ideal candidate for all-optical devices in the THz regime. The absorption spectrum of the switch can be manipulated by controlling the chemical potential of graphene layers, which is useful for electro-optical modulation applications.
