Topological Optimization of Circular SAW Resonators: Overcoming the Discreteness Effects

Sergey Yu. Shevchenko et al.

Summary: This study proposes a design for a ring-shaped surface acoustic wave (SAW) resonator sensitive element, and analyzes its characteristics and suggests optimization strategies, with a focus on temperature stability. The design is further optimized to narrow the bandwidth and improve signal detection, while considering technological limitations and the impact of lithography defects. The study validates several design options for the interdigital transducer (IDT) and demonstrates how its pin geometry can be optimized. The results will be used for prototyping and printing ring resonators on a substrate using photolithography.

Control of a Drone in Virtual Reality Using MEMS Sensor Technology and Machine Learning

Florin Covaciu et al.

Summary: In recent years, drones have been widely used in various fields. However, the risk of accidents is high, making it important to have control devices and train pilots. Training in a virtual environment is the safest method. This study aims to develop a new device for controlling a drone in a virtual environment.

Formation of a Complex Topologies of SAW-Based Inertial Sensors by Laser Thin Film Local Evaporation

Alexander Kukaev et al.

Summary: Substituting photolithography with laser thin film local evaporation technique reduces the cost of producing surface acoustic wave based inertial sensors prototypes. Testing a prototype of a surface acoustic wave gyroscope sensing element showed a frequency mismatch of less than 1%, but dispersion of the wave on small inertial masses leads to a spurious parasitic signal on receiving electrodes. Ways to neglect this issue are discussed.

The calibration method for accelerometers in the redundant MEMS inertial navigation system

Binhan Du et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a novel calibration method for accelerometers in redundant INS, which successfully addresses the challenges in error compensation. The study also optimizes the rotation scheme for lever arm error calibration, improving accuracy by almost an order of magnitude and reducing time consumption by 40%. The design principles introduced in this paper are applicable to other inertial navigation systems for improving calibration accuracy and reducing time cost.

Flexible thin-film acoustic wave devices with off-axis bending characteristics for multisensing applications

Zhangbin Ji et al.

Summary: Flexible surface acoustic wave devices were fabricated using AlN films and their complex deformation behaviors were systematically investigated. A theoretical model was developed to analyze the characteristics of the device under bending and off-axis deformation, showing relationships between frequency shifts and bending strain/off-axis angle. Proof-of-concept demonstrations were performed to showcase multisensing potential, monitoring human wrist movements and detecting UV light intensities.

Lightweight Thermal Compensation Technique for MEMS Capacitive Accelerometer Oriented to Quasi-Static Measurements

Javier Martinez et al.

Summary: A light calibration method based on theoretical studies is proposed in this work to improve the performance of MEMS capacitive accelerometers by obtaining two characteristic parameters of the sensor's operation. The study found that the Temperature Drift of Bias (TDB) has the greatest influence on thermal drift and compensation can achieve significant improvement. Thermal compensation reduces the effect of self-heating in the first hours after power-up of the sensor by 43%.
