Transmission dynamics of monkeypox virus with treatment and vaccination controls: a fractional order mathematical approach

Suvankar Majee et al.

Summary: A recent outbreak of monkeypox virus infection that originated in the United Kingdom has now spread globally. In order to study the transmission dynamics of this virus, a seven-compartmental fractional-order mathematical model is formulated, including five compartments for the human population and two compartments for animals or rodents. The existence and uniqueness of the solution for this fractional order model are examined. The basic reproduction number for humans (R0h) is...

A predator-prey model for the optimal control of fish harvesting through the imposition of a tax

Anal Chatterjee et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on the study of ecosystem based fisheries management. The model considers continuous harvesting of predators and observes Hopf bifurcation when the intrinsic growth rate of the predator population exceeds a critical value. The study highlights the significant impact of taxation, as the optimal harvest strategy is determined by imposing a tax per unit of predator biomass. The paper also explores the implications of taxation, deriving different bifurcations and assessing global stability through numerical simulations.

Dynamical analysis of monkeypox transmission incorporating optimal vaccination and treatment with cost-effectiveness

Suvankar Majee et al.

Summary: The monkeypox outbreak in the UK has spread to every continent. A mathematical model using ordinary differential equations was developed to examine the transmission dynamics of monkeypox. The reproduction numbers for humans (R-0(h)) and animals (R-0(a)) were calculated using the next-generation matrix technique. The study found three equilibria depending on the values of R 0 h and R 0 a and investigated the stability of these equilibria. This is the first study to construct and solve an optimal monkeypox control strategy considering vaccination and treatment controls.

Stability analysis of a non-singular fractional-order covid-19 model with nonlinear incidence and treatment rate

Hardik Joshi et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a non-singular SIR model with the Mittag-Leffler law, using the nonlinear Beddington-DeAngelis infection rate and Holling type II treatment rate. The qualitative properties of the model are discussed, and the local and global stability are analyzed. Conditions are developed to ensure local and global asymptotic stability. Numerical simulations are provided to support the theoretical results and investigate the impact of various factors on COVID-19. The results show that measures such as face masks, social distancing, quarantine, lockdown, immigration, and effective treatment rates can significantly reduce the infected population, while limitations in treatment resources can lead to an increase in infections.

Modeling and analysis of monkeypox disease using fractional derivatives

Samuel Okyere et al.

Summary: This study proposes the use of Atangana-Baleanu fractional-order derivatives to investigate the transmission of Monkeypox in Ghana. The model's basic reproduction number was found to be 0.1940, and the fractional-order derivatives were shown to have an influence on the dynamics of the disease. The numerical simulation revealed that the disease can be eradicated within five days when the vaccine coverage rate is 0.2.

Investigating the dynamics of a novel fractional- order monkeypox epidemic model with optimal control

Waleed Adel et al.

Summary: In this paper, a novel fractional-order monkeypox epidemic model is proposed, which applies fractional-order derivatives in order to achieve more realistic results. The model consists of a 14-dimensional system of fractional-order differential equations, representing the transmission and spread of monkeypox between humans and rodents. The existence, uniqueness, non-negativity, and boundedness of the solution to the model are proven, and the next-generation matrix approach is used to determine the control monkeypox reproduction number and the equilibrium points. The effect of the main parameters and optimal control strategies on the dynamics of the model are investigated.

Analysis of Monkeypox viral infection with human to animal transmission via a fractional and Fractal-fractional operators with power law kernel

Alia M. Alzubaidi et al.

Summary: This article examines the dynamics of monkeypox transmission using a fractional mathematical model, incorporating human-to-animal transmission. The study applies fixed point theorems to establish the existence and uniqueness of the model's fractional and fractal-fractional problems. A numerical scheme is developed and simulations demonstrate the combined effect of fractal and fractional orders on the model's dynamics. The findings highlight the added biological insight provided by the new fractal-fractional operator.

Summary: In this paper, the SV1V2EIR model is constructed to reveal the impact of two-dose vaccination on COVID-19 using Caputo fractional derivative. The model is validated and sensitivity analysis is conducted. Results show that vaccine dosage, disease transmission rate, and Caputo fractional derivative have significant effects on the vaccine efficacy.

Increased outbreaks of monkeypox highlight gaps in actual disease burden in Sub-Saharan Africa and in animal reservoirs

Najmul Haider et al.

Summary: The study discusses the research gaps in the epidemiology of Monkeypox virus (MPX) in endemic countries and proposes hypotheses for the recent increase in MPX cases in West Africa, suggesting a possible explanation for the ongoing epidemic in Europe, America, and Australia. The authors highlight the epidemic potential of MPX in humans and emphasize the need for a better understanding of the burden of MPX in West and Central Africa, as well as the unknown diversity and extent of the animal reservoir. They hypothesize that increased human-rodent interactions and a larger immune-naive population may have contributed to the recent surge in MPX cases. The study emphasizes the importance of national, regional, and international collaborations to address the research gaps related to MPX outbreaks.

Summary: Two cases of monkeypox virus infection in individuals returning from Nigeria to the USA have led to a dramatic increase in infection rates. As of June 10, 2022, over 1,500 cases have been reported in 43 countries, including Europe and North America. While monkeypox virus is prevalent in central and western Africa, its presence in developed countries has raised concerns about global spread.

Summary: Several neglected infectious pathogens, including monkeypox virus (MPXV), have resurfaced in recent decades, posing a global health burden. Despite the availability of an early-stage vaccine against MPXV infection, there has been a continued rise in travel-related outbreaks worldwide. As of May 31, 2022, there have been 472 confirmed cases reported in 27 countries, marking the highest number of cases recorded outside Africa since the disease was first discovered in the early 1970s.

Heavy-tailed sexual contact networks and monkeypox epidemiology in the global outbreak, 2022

Akira Endo et al.

Summary: The outbreak of monkeypox in non-endemic regions in May 2022 has distinct epidemiological features, particularly its rapid spread among men who have sex with men (MSM). A study suggests that the heavy-tailed sexual partnership distribution, where a few individuals have numerous partners, can explain the sustained growth of monkeypox among MSM. This highlights the need for tailored messaging and support to prevent and detect monkeypox among MSM with high numbers of partners.
