Nonlinear optical response of a strongly-driven quantum dot exciton-biexciton system

Spyridon G. Kosionis et al.

Summary: We investigate the optical susceptibilities of a semiconductor quantum dot with an exciton-biexciton configuration driven by a resonant pump field and interacting with a weak field. The linear polarized applied fields simplify the energy level diagram. By using a dipole approximation and a rotating frame, we derive the equations of motion and calculate the density matrix components related to the linear and nonlinear susceptibilities. We analyze the spectral properties of the first-order susceptibility and the self-Kerr susceptibility, considering the Rabi frequency and the detuning of the pump field, as well as the biexciton energy shift.

Energy absorption of an exciton-biexciton system in a quantum dot-Metal nanoparticle hybrid

Spyridon G. Kosionis et al.

Summary: The study theoretically analyzes the energy absorption rate spectrum of a coupled nanostructure composed of a semiconductor quantum dot and a spherical metal nanoparticle interacting with a linearly polarized electromagnetic field. The results reveal three regular peaks on the SQD spectrum and three Fano-type resonance line shapes on the MNP spectrum. Increasing the absolute value of the biexciton energy shift leads to a larger distance between these peaks. These findings have potential applications in nanotechnology.

A Review of Many-Body Interactions in Linear and Nonlinear Plasmonic Nanohybrids

Mahi R. Singh

Summary: This review article discusses the many-body interactions in plasmonic nanohybrids made of an ensemble of quantum emitters and metallic nanoparticles, where the interactions are achieved through dipole-dipole coupling. It is found that the nonlinear Kerr intensity enhances due to weak dipole-dipole coupling limits, while in strong coupling limits, the Kerr spectrum splits into two peaks. This splitting is attributed to the creation of dressed states in the plasmonic nanohybrids within the strong dipole-dipole interaction.

Controlling the Pump-Probe Optical Response in Asymmetric Tunneling-Controlled Double Quantum Dot Molecule-Metal Nanoparticle Hybrids

Spyridon G. Kosionis et al.

Summary: The study investigates the modified nonlinear pump-probe optical properties due to the excitonic-plasmonic interaction of a double semiconductor quantum dot molecule coupled to a metal nanoparticle. The absorption and dispersion spectra of an electromagnetic field in a hybrid structure are examined, with a focus on how the distance between the two elements affects the optical response. The calculations consider various physical constants of the system, including pump-field detuning and energy separation gap associated with excited states.

Coherent preparation of the biexciton state in a semiconductor quantum dot coupled to a metallic nanoparticle

Emmanuel Paspalakis et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the potential for controlled transfer of population to the biexciton state of a semiconductor quantum dot coupled with a metal nanoparticle under the influence of an electromagnetic pulse. Analytical solutions of the density matrix equations are derived for both zero and nonzero biexciton energy shifts, showing efficient transfer to the biexciton state even at relatively small interparticle distances. The influence of surface plasmons on the excitons can strongly modify the population transfer, particularly for shorter pulses, in certain cases. The successful preparation of the biexciton state in the hybrid nanostructure studied here is expected to contribute to research on generating efficient polarization-entangled photons.

Efficient Biexciton Preparation in a Quantum Dot-Metal Nanoparticle System Using On-Off Pulses

Athanasios Smponias et al.

Summary: In this study, a hybrid nanostructure composed of a semiconductor quantum dot coupled to a metallic nanoparticle was investigated for the efficient creation of biexciton state using linearly polarized laser pulses. Numerical simulations showed that a simple on-off-on pulse-sequence can efficiently prepare the biexciton state even in the presence of the nanoparticle, for various interparticle distances and biexciton energy shifts. The pulse durations in the sequence were determined by solving a transcendental equation.
