In this study, a message spreading model for social networks is proposed, which introduces decaying attention and modifies the duplicate forwarding model. User influence is defined and theoretically analyzed through generating functions based on this model. The diffusion threshold is further investigated and its existence and uniqueness are proved. Simulation results demonstrate the efficiency of user influence in this model, and analysis of user influence and diffusion thresholds show its accuracy and promising potential.
Due to the convenience and efficiency of social networks in information diffusion, many studies have been conducted during the past decades. Many models are adopted to understand the message spreading process in social networks. Unfortunately, these models are not suitable for social networks with decaying attention. It remains to be demonstrated whether there exists a diffusion threshold if a phenomenon of decaying attention is introduced. In this paper, we propose a message spreading model for social networks by introducing decaying attention and modifying the duplicate forwarding model. Based on this model, we define and theoretically analyze the user influence through generating functions. We further investigate the diffusion threshold and prove its existence and uniqueness. Simulation results show that user influence in this model is efficient, and analysis of user influence and diffusion thresholds demonstrate its accuracy and promising. & COPY; 2023 Elsevier B.V.
