An autonomous emergency braking strategy based on non-linear model predictive deceleration control

Hongyuan Mu et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a new surrogate safety measure (SSM) based on deceleration rate to avoid collision (DRAC) for the assessment of autonomous emergency braking system (AEBS). A layered AEBS architecture is proposed, with an upper-layer controller calculating the expected deceleration based on modified DRAC (MDRAC) and transmitting it to a lower-layer nonlinear model predictive control (NMPC) deceleration controller. Simulation and experimental tests demonstrate that the system has a fast and stable response. The proposed AEBS strategy improves the stability of the distance margin and ensures the safety and stability of the vehicle compared to the time-to-collision (TTC) method.

Learning the Policy for Mixed Electric Platoon Control of Automated and Human-Driven Vehicles at Signalized Intersection: A Random Search Approach

Xia Jiang et al.

Summary: The upgrading and updating of vehicles have accelerated in the past decades. Electric vehicles (EVs) and connected and automated vehicles (CAVs) have become new components of transportation systems due to the need for environmental friendliness and intelligence. This paper proposes a reinforcement learning framework to implement adaptive control for an electric platoon composed of CAVs and human-driven vehicles (HDVs) at a signalized intersection. Through simulations and comparisons, it is shown that the proposed method can achieve higher rewards and save more energy compared to traditional approaches.

Coordinated control of heterogeneous vehicle platoon stability and energy-saving control strategies

Z. C. He et al.

Summary: This work presents an overall control strategy for heterogeneous vehicle platoons to minimize energy consumption and improve transportation efficiency by sustaining the string stability of the platoon on signalized arterials under external perturbations. The stability criterion is derived by analyzing the string stability of multi-time-lag heterogeneous platoon based on the intelligent driver model (IDM). The optimal model of vehicle platoon consumption is reconstructed to simplify the solution process and a stable eco-driving model is established for the platoon. The overall speed control strategy combines stability and energy consumption for nonlinear optimization analysis, and the performance of the proposed strategy is validated through numerical simulations.
