Near-electrode effects of ferroelectric nanocomposites filled with pristine and oxidized multiwalled carbon nanotubes at low frequencies

Hoai Thuong Nguyen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the possible effects near the electrodes in nanocomposites based on classical ferroelectrics filled with pristine and oxidized multiwalled carbon nanotubes by analyzing the electric impedance spectra at low frequencies (10(-3)-10(6)Hz). The composite structures were explored using FTIR technique. The results show that using oxidized carbon nanotubes can partially suppress the near-electrode effects caused by the poor electrical conductivity of OH groups after oxidation, and the frequency range in which these effects exist is expanded with increasing filler content.

Durable substrates incorporated with MOFs: Recent advances in engineering strategies and water treatment applications

Bingbing Yu et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the latest research progress in the combination of water-stable MOFs with durable substrates in the field of water treatment. It analyzes the advantages of durable substrates in terms of structure and species, discusses the methods for preparing MOFs on substrates, and analyzes the modification methods to improve the binding stability of MOFs to durable substrates. In addition, a series of engineering strategies, including controllable distribution of MOFs on substrates, regulation of MOFs morphology and size, regulation of surface wettability and design of synergistic effects, are summarized. The water treatment applications of MOFs, such as adsorption, oil-water separation, catalytic degradation, and desalination, are introduced. Finally, insights and prospects for future challenges are presented.

When MOFs meet wood: From opportunities toward applications

Xiaofan Ma et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have attracted widespread attention due to their structural diversity and multifunctionality, but their further practical applications are limited by their powdered crystalline state. However, compounding MOFs with self-supporting porous materials with good processibility can effectively stabilize the powdered MOFs. Wood, with its natural multidimensional channel structure and excellent mechanical stability, is highly compatible with MOFs. MOF particles can be uniformly loaded onto the wood channel through physical adsorption, hydrogen bonding, or reaction with hydroxyl and carboxyl groups in the fibers. Ultimately, synthesis of MOF@wood composites with new functions shows great potential in interdisciplinary research.

Ferroelectric nanocomposites from potassium dihydrogen phosphate with oxidised multi-walled carbon nanotubes: preparation, composition effects, structure, ferroelectricity and electrical properties

Hoai Thuong Nguyen et al.

Summary: A novel ferroelectric nanocomposite based on KDP and OMWCNT was prepared and studied for its impact on structure, phase transition, ferroelectric switching, and electrical properties. The results showed expansion of the ferroelectric phase and increased dielectric constant with higher OMWCNT content, along with weaker ferroelectric switching. Impedance and conductivity measurements indicated electrode effects, likely due to interactions between KDP and OMWCNT and the high electrical conductivity of OMWCNT.

Phase transition and ferroelectricity of composites based on ferroelectric metal-organic framework of [NH4][Zn(HCOO)3]

Hoai Thuong Nguyen et al.

Summary: The study suggests that the phase transition properties and ferroelectricity of a typical ferroelectric metal-organic framework can be improved using silicon dioxide nanoparticles. The addition of nanoparticles increases the phase transition temperature as well as the spontaneous saturation and remnant polarizations, although obtaining saturation P-E loops at high nanoparticle content proves difficult.

Metal-Organic Framework Composites for Theragnostics and Drug Delivery Applications

Johannes W. M. Osterrieth et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) are promising materials for cancer drug delivery due to their high drug uptake capacities and slow-release mechanisms. MOF-composite materials with added functionality, such as externally triggered drug release and improved pharmacokinetics, show potential for applications in nanomedicine. Further research is needed to develop biomedical expertise and advanced targeting techniques in this field.
