Sustained intracellular calcium rise mediates neuronal mitophagy in models of autosomal dominant optic atrophy

Marta Zaninello et al.

Summary: Mitochondrial dysfunction and mitophagy are common characteristics of neurodegenerative diseases, and in ADOA, mitophagy depends on Ca2+-calcineurin-AMPK signaling cascade, providing insights into the pathogenesis of this disease.

Genistein: A focus on several neurodegenerative diseases

Rongzi Li et al.

Summary: Neurodegenerative diseases are characterized by the progressive loss of function or structure of nerve cells in the central nervous system. Genistein, an isoflavone found mainly in soy products, has shown antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and estrogenic properties, indicating its potential neuroprotective effects against neurodegenerative diseases.

Synergistic antioxidant capacities of vanillin and chitosan nanoparticles against reactive oxygen species, hepatotoxicity, and genotoxicity induced by aging in male Wistar rats

N. M. Al-Baqami et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the synergistic effects of vanillin and chitosan nanoparticles on hepatotoxicity induced by D-galactose. The results demonstrated that CNPs and V synergistically alleviated liver injury and oxidative stress.

Camphorquinone Promotes the Antisenescence Effect via Activating AMPK/SIRT1 in Stem Cells and D-Galactose-Induced Aging Mice

Nagarajan Maharajan et al.

Summary: The study found that CQ may reduce senescence in hBM-MSCs and mouse heart tissues, and enhance AMPK/SIRT1 activation and autophagy in both models. CQ also lowered the gene expression of inflammation markers in D-Gal-induced aging mouse heart tissues.

Notoginsenoside R1 alleviates TEGDMA-induced mitochondrial apoptosis in preodontoblasts through activation of Akt/Nrf2 pathway-dependent mitophagy

Konghuai Wang et al.

Summary: Notoginsenoside R1 (NR1) extracted from Panax notoginseng has a protective effect on TEGDMA-induced mitochondrial apoptosis in dental pulp cells by enhancing the Akt/Nrf2 pathway-mediated mitophagy. This suggests that activating the Akt/Nrf2 pathway may be a promising approach to prevent resin monomer-induced dental pulp injury.

Neurodegenerative Diseases: A Multidisciplinary Approach

Pilar Rabal Marcos et al.

Summary: The rapid increase in population aging has led to a higher risk of neurodegenerative diseases, particularly dementia. Personalized diagnosis and treatment are desirable but require a deep understanding of each type of dementia and a multidisciplinary approach. Various factors, such as diet and new technologies like nanotechnology, are being explored to prevent and manage these disorders.

TNF alpha induces mitochondrial fragmentation and biogenesis in human airway smooth muscle

Philippe Delmotte et al.

Summary: In hASM of asthmatic patients, mitochondrial volume density is higher and fragmentation is more common, likely influenced by proinflammatory cytokines. TNF alpha exposure leads to increased mitochondrial biogenesis, volume density, and fragmentation, ultimately reducing O-2 consumption rate per mitochondrion. These changes are associated with alterations in expression of key mitochondrial proteins and increased cell proliferation in hASM.
