Smoking-cessation advice from dental care professionals and its association with smoking status Analysis of National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey 2015-2018

Summary: The study found that receiving smoking-cessation advice from dental care professionals was associated with more attempts to quit smoking, but not with long-term smoking abstinence of 6 months or longer. Practical efforts are needed to enhance smoking cessation in dental practices.

Racial disparities in provider-patient communication of incidental medical findings

Summary: Health disparities research often focuses on the social patterns of health outcomes and understanding the mechanisms perpetuating disparities. This study reveals racial/ethnic disparities in provider-patient communication contribute to lower follow-up adherence among patients of color. The findings suggest an important mechanism through which health inequalities persist, emphasizing the need to eliminate racial bias and discrimination in medical and public health infrastructures for equity.
