Signature of miR-21 and MEG-2 and their correlation with TGF-beta signaling in breast cancer

E. M. Desouky et al.

Summary: This study aimed to evaluate the reliability of miR-21 and MEG-2 expression levels in serum as diagnostic biomarkers for breast cancer and investigate their correlations with TGF-beta expression. The results showed that miR-21 and TGF-beta were upregulated in breast cancer patients, and elevated miR-21/TGF-beta levels were consistent with cancer stage. On the other hand, MEG-2 expression was downregulated in breast cancer patients, with gradual decrease consistent with cancer stage. A negative relationship between MEG-2 and miR-21/TGF-beta differential expression was also observed. This study suggests that miR-21 and MEG-2 could be potential diagnostic biomarkers for breast cancer, and highlights the importance of TGF-beta as a therapeutic target.

Enhancement of immune surveillance in breast cancer by targeting hypoxic tumor endothelium: Can it be an immunological switch point?

Juvin Ann Thomas et al.

Summary: Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women. The presence of a hypoxic microenvironment in tumors leads to immune suppression and the recruitment of immune cells that promote tumor growth. Immunotherapy and vascular normalisation may improve tumor access and immune response in the hypoxic tumor microenvironment. This article discusses the potential impact of immune-herbal therapeutic and immune-nutraceuticals approaches in attenuating breast cancer growth and preventing metastasis.

Interplay between LncRNAs and microRNAs in Breast Cancer

Heidi Schwarzenbach et al.

Summary: Although lncRNAs are precursors of miRNAs, they also act as ceRNAs and their interaction with miRNAs may modulate miRNA action. To understand their contribution to tumor resistance, both the function of miRNAs and the impact of lncRNAs on miRNAs need to be considered. This study focuses on the interplay between lncRNAs and miRNAs in the post-transcriptional regulatory network and their impact on breast cancer treatment drugs. Considering this interplay may improve the search for new drugs to overcome chemoresistance.

Summary: The PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway plays a crucial role in estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer tumorigenesis and drug resistance, making it a highly attractive therapeutic target. Several inhibitors targeting this pathway are currently under clinical development. The recent approval of the PIK3CA isoform-specific inhibitor alpelisib and the pan-AKT inhibitor capivasertib, in combination with fulvestrant, has provided new treatment options for advanced estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer patients. However, the clinical development of multiple inhibitors and incorporating CDK4/6 inhibitors into the standard treatment has complicated the personalization of therapy.

SNHG3 could promote prostate cancer progression through reducing methionine dependence of PCa cells

Xiaotian Wang et al.

Summary: In recent years, the morbidity and mortality of prostate cancer have increased dramatically, while the understanding of its onset and progression remains limited. In this study, it was discovered that SNHG3 acts as a molecular sponge and stimulates proliferation, migration, and invasion of prostate cancer cells by targeting SLC7A11. It also inhibits methionine dependence and apoptosis and affects the cell cycle. These findings provide new insights into the molecular mechanism of SNHG3 in regulating prostate cancer progression.

The lncRNA Malat1 regulates microvascular function after myocardial infarction in mice via miR-26b-5p/Mfn1 axis-mediated mitochondrial dynamics

Yuqiong Chen et al.

Summary: This study reveals that Malat1 plays a key role in cardiac microcirculation repair after MI by regulating mitochondrial dynamics and apoptosis through the miR-26b-5p/Mfn1 pathway. Targeted knockdown of Malat1 exacerbates cardiac microvascular dysfunction and impairs cardiac function in MI mice. Overexpression of Mfn1 reverses these effects, highlighting the potential therapeutic value of targeting the Malat1 pathway in MI-related cardiac complications.

LINC01287 facilitates proliferation, migration, invasion and EMT of colon cancer cells via miR-4500/MAP3K13 pathway

Dazhi Fu et al.

Summary: The study identified that LINC01287 is up-regulated in colon cancer patients and associated with tumor progression and prognosis. Silencing LINC01287 inhibited proliferation and migration of colon cancer cells, while overexpression had the opposite effect by regulating the miR-4500/MAP3K13 pathway to promote cancer progression. These findings suggest that LINC01287 may serve as a potential therapeutic target and prognostic marker for colon cancer patients.

Long Noncoding RNA GAS5 in Breast Cancer: Epigenetic Mechanisms and Biological Functions

Elena A. Filippova et al.

Summary: Long noncoding RNA GAS5 acts as a tumor suppressor in breast cancer through interactions with proteins, DNA, and various microRNAs. By upregulating suppressor proteins and stimulating apoptosis, GAS5 inhibits tumor growth. Additionally, GAS5 plays a crucial role in regulating key signaling pathways in breast cancer and can enhance drug sensitivity and prognosis through epigenetic mechanisms.

ZIC2 upregulates lncRNA SNHG12 expression to promote endometrial cancer cell proliferation and migration by activating the Notch signaling pathway

Pengyu Cai et al.

Summary: The study found that ZIC2 expression levels were upregulated in tissues and cells of patients with endometrial cancer. Knockdown of ZIC2 inhibited cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, while overexpression promoted these processes. ZIC2 may upregulate SNHG12 expression to activate the Notch signaling pathway and promote the proliferation and migration of endometrial cancer cells.
