PERFORMANCE OF THERMALLY SPRAYED HYDROXYAPATITE COATINGS FOR BIOMEDICAL IMPLANTS: A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW

Gaurav Prashar et al.

Summary: Metallic bioimplants are widely used to replace parts of the human body in a physiologically accepted manner. A bio-compatible coating is applied to the surface of the implant through surface modification techniques to improve its compatibility. Hydroxyapatite (HAp)-based coatings are preferred, but they have poor adhesion strength and mechanical properties. Reinforcing the coating with hard particulates can enhance its performance.

Four-Dimensional Printing and Shape Memory Materials in Bone Tissue Engineering

Xinwei Zhang et al.

Summary: The repair of severe bone defects is a challenge, and three-dimensional (3D) bioprinting has received attention in bone tissue engineering. However, 3D printing is limited as it only considers the static scaffold. The emergence of four-dimensional (4D) printing, which combines time with 3D printing, allows for dynamic changes in response to environmental stimuli. 4D printing has potential in bone tissue repair.

Electroactive Hydroxyapatite/Carbon Nanofiber Scaffolds for Osteogenic Differentiation of Human Adipose-Derived Stem Cells

Baojun Sun et al.

Summary: Traditional bone defect treatments face limitations due to insufficient supply of autologous bone, immune rejection of allogeneic bone grafts, and high medical costs. To overcome these limitations, bone tissue engineering with electroactive scaffolds has emerged as a promising option. However, current electroactive scaffolds are either single-function and not suitable for scientific research and clinical application, or complex and expensive to prepare. This study proposes a new tissue engineering strategy to optimize the electrical properties and biocompatibility of carbon-based materials.
