Analysis of Spatiotemporal Changes of Ecological Environment Quality and Its Coupling Coordination with Urbanization in the Yangtze River Delta Urban Agglomeration, China

Summary: The rapid urbanization inevitably affects the regional Ecological Environment Quality (EEQ). Balancing EEQ and urbanization has become a concern. Based on the Modified Remote Sensing Ecological Index and the Comprehensive Night Light Index, this study quantitatively evaluates the EEQ of the Yangtze River Delta Urban Agglomeration in China from 2000 to 2020. The results show significant regional differences in EEQ and an improved coordination degree between urbanization and EEQ.

Current and future distribution of a parasite with complex life cycle under global change scenarios: Echinococcus multilocularis in Europe

Summary: Global change is expected to have complex effects on the distribution and transmission patterns of zoonotic parasites. Modelling habitat suitability for parasites with complex life cycles is essential to further our understanding of disease systems and make spatial predictions. Using occurrence data and machine learning, we modelled habitat suitability for the parasite E. multilocularis in Europe and predicted its current and future distribution. Results show a northward shift in suitability and a decrease in central Europe.

Prediction of the Risk Distributions for Anopheles sinensis, a Vector for Malaria in Shanghai, China

Summary: This study aimed to identify the risk distribution of Anopheles sinensis and malaria transmission in Shanghai. Through analyzing data and environmental variables, 10 algorithms were constructed and ensemble models were developed. The results showed that the risk of malaria transmission was related to vegetation cover, while the risk of Anopheles sinensis was related to the degree of wetness. Precise monitoring of Anopheles sinensis should be conducted in high-risk areas, and malaria surveillance should be implemented even in low-risk areas.

Identifying core habitats and corridors for giant pandas by combining multiscale random forest and connectivity analysis

Summary: Habitat loss and fragmentation are the main factors contributing to the decline of giant panda populations. The Chinese government has made significant efforts to protect this species, but habitat fragmentation remains a problem. This study used different methods to predict habitat suitability and identify core habitats and corridors for the giant panda. The results showed that dispersal ability plays a significant role in evaluating habitat extent and population fragmentation. There are significant gaps in the current protected area network, highlighting the importance of the study in developing effective conservation strategies.

Improving wheat yield prediction integrating proximal sensing and weather data with machine learning

Effects of climate change on the distribution of wild Akebia trifoliata
