Clinicogenomic associations in childhood Langerhans cell histiocytosis: an international cohort study

Paul G. Kemps et al.

Summary: Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is a rare neoplastic disorder caused by somatic genetic alterations in hematopoietic precursor cells. LCH clinical manifestation is highly heterogeneous and the associations between BRAF and MAP2K1 mutations with clinical features are still not completely understood.

Cluster analysis of splenocyte microRNAs in the pig reveals key signal regulators of immunomodulation in the host during acute and chronic Toxoplasma gondii infection

Zhaofeng Hou et al.

Summary: By clustering analysis of splenocyte microRNAs in pigs infected with Toxoplasma gondii, this study identified key regulatory properties of miRNA subclusters and important features in immune regulation during acute and chronic infection. These findings provide new insights into understanding the physiological immune responses and maintenance of tolerance in pig spleen tissues during T. gondii infection.

Foodborne transmission of Toxoplasma gondii infection in the last decade. An overview

S. Almeria et al.

Summary: Toxoplasmosis is a zoonotic disease caused by the protozoan parasite Toxoplasma gondii, with the main routes of transmission being through ingestion of tissue cysts, contaminated food or water, and transplacental transmission. It can be asymptomatic in most immunocompetent individuals but can be fatal in fetuses and immunocompromised adults. Outbreaks have been reported worldwide, with T. gondii also causing reproductive failure and clinical toxoplasmosis in animals. Foodborne transmission is a major focus of research in the last decade.

ARAF mutations confer resistance to the RAF inhibitor belvarafenib in melanoma

Ivana Yen et al.

Summary: The study revealed that RAF dimer inhibitors may face resistance from melanoma cells with ARAF mutations, highlighting the potential of RAF plus MEK inhibition combination therapy to delay ARAF-driven resistance.

Outbreaks of clinical toxoplasmosis in humans: five decades of personal experience, perspectives and lessons learned

Jitender P. Dubey

Summary: This study critically reviewed outbreaks of clinical toxoplasmosis in humans from 1966 to 2020, finding most outbreaks occurred in Brazil. There were no apparent differences in symptoms between meat-acquired and oocyst-acquired infections. Fever, cervical lymphadenopathy, myalgia, and fatigue were the most important symptoms, and they were not age-dependent.

The Role of microRNAs in the Infection by T. gondii in Humans

Geraldo Magela de Faria Junior et al.

Summary: MicroRNAs, a family of small non-coding RNAs, have potential as biomarkers for disease diagnosis and prognosis. In the context of Toxoplasma gondii infection, changes in microRNAs and mRNAs in host cells can impact immune responses and survival of the parasite. Studies have shown promise in using microRNAs as diagnostic markers for toxoplasmosis in humans, detectable through non-invasive procedures and sensitive molecular-specific methods like real-time PCR.
