Emerging Imaging Technologies for Parathyroid Gland Identification and Vascular Assessment in Thyroid Surgery A Review From the American Head and Neck Society Endocrine Surgery Section

Amanda Silver L. Karcioglu et al.

Summary: Identification and preservation of parathyroid glands (PGs) during thyroid surgery is challenging and can lead to morbidity and mortality. Emerging imaging technologies, such as near-infrared autofluorescence (NIRAF), show promise in improving PG identification and preservation. This narrative review comprehensively explores the use of NIRAF and provides a manual for implementing these technologies in thyroid surgery.
