Dosage delivery of chiral ruthenium catalysts using non-ionic surfactants for asymmetric transfer hydrogenation reactions in aqueous media

Bengi Ozgun Ozturk et al.

Summary: In this study, non-ionic surfactants were used as media to dissolve chiral ruthenium catalysts for asymmetric transfer hydrogenation reactions of ketones in water. The experimental results showed that microgram-scale surfactant-based catalytic systems can be directly used in nano-sized micelle structures for multiple recycling.

Organogel delivery vehicles for the stabilization of organolithium reagents

Petr Slavik et al.

Summary: In this study, an encapsulating method using low-cost C36H74 organogel was developed to stabilize sensitive organolithium reagents-PhLi, n-BuLi and s-BuLi. The gel significantly enhanced organolithium stability and demonstrated various functionalities such as nucleophilic addition reactions, low-temperature bromine-lithium exchange, ortho-lithiation and C-H functionalization under ambient conditions. The gel simplified the storage, handling and delivery of organolithium reagents, and ensured reproducible reagent portioning. This gel-based delivery system has the potential to revolutionize synthetic chemistry, making powerful reactions safer and more accessible to non-specialist researchers, and promoting the widespread use of these common synthetic methods.

Ligand-Enabled Sustainable Gold Catalysis

Anil Kumar et al.

Summary: Gold catalysis is an efficient tool in synthetic organic chemistry, but high catalyst loadings limit its application in large-scale synthesis. Recent research emphasizes the importance of ligand engineering in achieving low catalyst loadings, milder reaction conditions, and greener solvents for gold-catalyzed organic transformations. This perspective summarizes key reports and discusses the challenges and potential for ppm-level gold catalysis.

Light in Gold Catalysis

Sina Witzel et al.

Summary: Gold photocatalysis in gold-catalyzed reactions offers unique advantages, allowing for valence change of the gold center through electron transfer and radical addition without the need for stoichiometric sacrificial oxidants. The compatibility of radicals with gold catalysts enables a variety of important organic transformations, including redox-neutral C-C and C-X coupling, C-H activation, and formal radical-radical cross-coupling.

A non-ionic surfactant based catalyst tablet: a reusable gold-NHC catalyst system for alkyne hydration reactions

Burcu Durmus et al.

Summary: This study describes the encapsulation of IPrAuCl in a non-ionic polymeric surfactant for dispersion of hydrophobic alkyne substrates and gold-NHC complexes in aqueous media. The encapsulated catalyst tablets form stable nano-sized micelle structures and can be reused multiple times in the alkyne hydration reaction without significant activity loss.
