Inherently chiral calixarenes by a catalytic enantioselective desymmetrizing cross-dehydrogenative coupling

Xin Zhang et al.

Summary: Under the catalysis of PdBr2 and a chiral phosphoramidite ligand, mono (2-bromoaroyl)-substituted calix[4]arene derivatives with upper-rim underwent an easy enantioselective desymmetrization reaction, yielding 9H-fluorene-embedded inherently chiral calixarenes with good yields and excellent enantioselectivities. The transannular dehydrogenative arene-arene coupling reaction most likely proceeded through oxidative addition of the C-aryl-Br bond to a ligated palladium catalyst, followed by a sequence of enantioselective 1,5-palladium migration and intramolecular C-H arylation. This new family of inherently chiral calixarenes has unique chiroptical properties due to their highly rigid structure induced by the 9H-fluorene segment.

Mingruo Ding et al.

Summary: Through space palladium/hydrogen shift is an efficient strategy for selective functionalization of a specific remote C-H bond. This study investigates the relatively less explored 1,5-Pd/H shift pattern between a vinyl and an acyl group, leading to the rapid synthesis of 5-membered-dihydrobenzofuran and indoline derivatives. The study also reveals a trifunctionalization of a phenyl ring through 1,5-palladium migration relayed decarbonylative Catellani type reaction.

Toward High-Energy and Low-Sensitivity Energetic Materials Based on a Fused [5,5,5,6]-Tetracyclic Backbone

Caijin Lei et al.

Summary: A route for the synthesis of fused [5,5,5,6]-tetracyclic energetic compounds based on facile cyclization reaction was explored. Fused [5,5,5,6]-tetracyclic compound 4 exhibited high measured density (1.924 g cm-3), low sensitivity (IS = 10 J, and FS = 144 N), and excellent detonation velocity (9241 m s-1), surpassing those of RDX. These findings suggest that compound 4 is a potential candidate as a secondary explosive and provide new insights into the construction of fused polycyclic heterocycles.

Accessing indole-isoindole derivatives via palladium-catalyzed [3+2] cyclization of isocyanides with alkynyl imines

Dianpeng Chen et al.

Summary: A facile protocol for the preparation of indole-isoindole derivatives was developed via a palladium-catalyzed [3+2] cyclization of isocyanides with alkynyl imines. The palladium catalyst serves as a triple role in this transformation, enabling the dual function of isocyanide as a C1 synthon for cyanation and a C1N1 synthon for imidoylation. This reaction is significant as the sole successful example for accessing indole-isoindole derivatives and has potential for assembling unique N-heterocycle frameworks.
