Decarboxylation of Paraconic Acids by a Silver(I) Nitrate/Persulfate Combination: An Entry to β-Nitro- and β-Hydroxy γ-Butyrolactones

Supasorn Phae-nok et al.

Summary: In this study, decarboxylative transformations of paraconic acids were investigated using a combination of AgNO3/K2S2O8. The use of AgNO3 was found to have a dual function in initiating the decarboxylation process and as a source of nitrogen dioxide radicals. This method provides a direct and site-specific entry to β-nitro- and β-hydroxy gamma-butyrolactones, which are important precursors in organic transformations.

On-Water Reaction of (Thio)isocyanate: A Sustainable Process for the Synthesis of Unsymmetrical (Thio)ureas

Amit Dattatray Karche et al.

Summary: This study presents a facile, sustainable, and chemoselective method for synthesizing unsymmetrical (thio)ureas through the on-water reaction of (thio)isocyanates with amines. Mechanistic investigations reveal that the reaction rate and selectivity are determined by the physical nature and solubility of the reagents in water. The developed protocol achieves zero waste water-mediated synthesis, avoiding the use of toxic volatile organic solvents.

Scalable, Telescoped Hydrogenolysis-Enzymatic Decarboxylation Process for the Asymmetric Synthesis of (R)-α-Heteroaryl Propionic Acids

Caroline A. Blakemore et al.

Summary: The article presents a method to address the issue of spontaneous decarboxylation of malonic acids, achieving the synthesis of enantiopure alpha-aryl propionic acids through hydrogenolysis of dibenzyl malonates. The approach successfully synthesized a series of N-heterocyclic propionic acids with high yield and enantioselectivity.
