Metallogenic discrimination by sphalerite trace element geochemistry: An example from the Fengyan Zn-Pb deposit in central Fujian, SE China

Bo Xing et al.

Summary: Central Fujian in southeastern China is an important polymetallic mineral province with disputed mineralization models. The Fengyan stratabound Zn-Pb deposit contains two types of sphalerite with different trace element compositions, suggesting a skarn deposit classification. This study highlights the effectiveness of sphalerite trace element geochemistry for differentiating ore deposit types.

Trace element compositions of sulfides from Pb-Zn deposits in the Northeast Yunnan and northwest Guizhou Provinces, SW China: Insights from LA-ICP-MS analyses of sphalerite and pyrite

Qing Yang et al.

Summary: Trace elements in sphalerite and pyrite from six deposits at the Sichuan-Yunnan-Guizhou lead-zinc metallogenic province were analysed to determine their composition, distribution characteristics, and substitution mechanisms by LA-ICP-MS analyses. Results revealed significant correlations and substitution mechanisms between certain elements in sphalerite and pyrite, as well as regional variations in composition and ratios. The Co/Ni ratio in pyrite may serve as a vector for geochemical exploration of Pb-Zn mineralization, with ratios close to 0.1 indicating potential for larger deposits.

LA-ICP-MS trace element geochemistry of sphalerite: Metallogenic constraints on the Qingshuitang Pb-Zn deposit in the Qinhang Ore Belt, South China

Shan Liu et al.

Summary: The study focused on the Qingshuitang Pb-Zn deposit in the central Qinhang Ore Belt, revealing four mineralization stages with temperatures ranging from 82 to 204 degrees Celsius and low sulfur fugacity, consistent with MVT deposits. Additionally, the elemental contents in the sphalerite at Qingshuitang were also similar to those in MVT deposits, suggesting it may be classified as an MVT deposit.

Ore-forming processes of the Qixiashan carbonate-hosted Pb-Zn deposit, South China: Constraints from sulfide trace elements and sulfur isotopes

Wen-Dong Zhang et al.

Summary: For stratabound Fe-Cu-Pb-Zn deposits in the Middle-Lower Yangtze River Valley Belt (MLYRB) in South China, the origin and nature of the ore fluids are still poorly understood. In this study, the trace elements and sulfur isotope compositions of sphalerite and galena from the Qixiashan carbonate-hosted Pb-Zn deposit were examined to provide insights into the ore-fluid source and metallogenic processes.
