Stable optical lateral forces from inhomogeneities of the spin angular momentum

Yuzhi Shi et al.

Summary: This study theoretically and experimentally reveals the dominant role of the spin angular momentum (SAM) in generating optical lateral forces (OLF) on nonabsorbing particles, while absorbing particles are affected by the spin-orbit interaction. The experimental results demonstrate the dependence of the force's amplitude and sign on polarization.

Refractive index sensing based on surface plasmon-coupled emission excited by reverse Kretschmann or Tamm structure

Zhe Shen et al.

Summary: Surface plasmon coupled emission (SPCE) is a directional emission method that has shown great potential in fields such as bio-analysis and medical diagnosis. This study provides a theoretical analysis of SPCE, proposes a new structure to enhance the emission intensity, and introduces a refractive index sensing method based on SPCE. The results demonstrate that SPCE sensing has advantages over surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensing in terms of signal-to-noise ratio and excitation efficiency.

Near-field interference map due to a dipolar emission near the edge of a monocrystalline gold platelet

N. Abbasirad et al.

Summary: Point source excitation and point detection in the near-field provide a new perspective for studying the optical phenomena of plasmonic nanostructures. Using automated dual-tip scanning near-field optical microscopy, the optical near-field response of a dipolar emission near the edge of a monocrystalline gold platelet was measured, and near-field enhancement was observed.

Near-field launching and mapping unidirectional surface plasmon polaritons using an automated dual-tip scanning near-field optical microscope

Najmeh Abbasirad et al.

Summary: The emission pattern of electromagnetic fields from the aperture tip of a scanning near-field optical microscope (SNOM) depends on the tip's geometry and coating. Previous studies mainly focused on the far-field measurements and theoretical models based on them. In this study, the authors used an automated dual-tip SNOM to systematically characterize the emission in the near-field. The results demonstrate the feasibility of this technique for measuring the emission from aperture tips in the near field, and the asymmetric SPP radiation patterns have potential applications in photonic integrated circuits or biological and chemical sensing.
