Azimuthal confinement: the missing ingredient in understanding confinement loss in antiresonant, hollow-core fibers

Leah R. Murphy et al.

Summary: Antiresonant, hollow-core optical fibers are exceeding the loss performance of conventional solid-core fibers, but there are still aspects of their guidance mechanism that are not understood. The glass elements of the cladding structure with a radial orientation play a crucial role in determining the confinement loss. Azimuthal confinement, described as the shaping of wave fields in the azimuthal coordinate, leads to a substantially lower confinement loss.

Antiresonant Hollow-Core Inline Fiber Polarizer

Jichao Zang et al.

Summary: The unique characteristics of hollow core fibers make them attractive for designing inline fiber optic devices. We report a novel approach that uses a resonant band of single-ring antiresonant fiber to realize a high-performance hollow-core fiber polarizer. The device offers low transmission loss and a high polarization extinction ratio. These results encourage further development of other hollow-core fiber components.

All-Fiber Gas Cavity Based on Anti-Resonant Hollow-Core Fibers Fabricated by Splicing with End Caps

Jing Shi et al.

Summary: Fiber gas lasers have seen rapid development in recent years, but efficient and stable pump coupling remains a key limitation. Researchers have reported an all-fiber gas cavity with very stable performance, opening up new opportunities for high-power all-fiber structured fiber gas lasers.

Anti-resonant hollow-core fiber fusion spliced to laser gain fiber for high-power beam delivery

Charu Goel et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the selective excitation of the fundamental mode in an anti-resonant hollow-core fiber fused with a commercial large mode area fiber. Through design, fabrication, and splicing techniques, a high coupling efficiency into the fundamental mode is achieved. The integration of the ARHCF with a commercial ytterbium-doped fiber for beam delivery application shows a high coupling efficiency in a stable all-fiber laser setup.
