Bloch oscillations of coherently driven dissipative solitons in a synthetic dimension

Nicolas Englebert et al.

Summary: Synthetic dimensions can introduce band properties without a periodic structure in real space, and a study in an optical resonator has now shown non-linear soliton states in synthetic frequency space. By coupling the discrete degrees of freedom of a physical system, synthetic dimensions can construct fictitious lattice structures, providing a way to study band properties in the absence of a real periodic lattice structure. Non-linearities and dissipation in synthetic dimensions have potential for rich physics, but have not been extensively explored.

Space-time observation of the dynamics of soliton collisions in a recirculating optical fiber loop

Francois Copie et al.

Summary: We achieved the single-shot observation of the space and time interaction of two and three bright solitons in a recirculating fiber loop. The observed space-time evolutions provide clear evidence of a nearly-integrable nonlinear wave dynamics, which can be easily explained within the framework of the inverse scattering transform (IST) method. The collisions between solitons are found to be almost perfectly elastic, with no change in velocity and only a position (time) shift accurately described by numerical simulations.

Control and stabilization of Kerr cavity solitons and breathers driven by chirped optical pulses

Francesco Rinaldo Talenti et al.

Summary: The impact of chirped driving fields on Kerr cavity breathers and solitons is investigated, and it is found that synchronous phase and amplitude modulation of the pumping field can be used to control soliton dynamics. The use of a phase-modulated super-Gaussian pump is shown to stabilize the oscillations of breathing solitons and generate prescribed temporal intra-cavity patterns. These findings have applications in deterministic generation of optical frequency soliton combs, optical tweezers, and all-optical manipulation of light pulses.

Robust Three-Dimensional High-Order Solitons and Breathers in Driven Dissipative Systems: A Kerr Cavity Realization

Yifan Sun et al.

Summary: This study presents a general approach to exciting stable dissipative three-dimensional and high-order solitons and breathers in passively driven nonlinear cavities. A paradigmatic example is used to illustrate the findings, showing that three-dimensional solitons or light bullets are the only stable states that exist under specific parameters. This rare property in passive nonlinear systems allows for deterministic formation of target solitons or breathers.

Phase and intensity control of dissipative Kerr cavity solitons

Miro Erkintalo et al.

Summary: Dissipative Kerr cavity solitons are light pulses that can persist in coherently driven nonlinear optical resonators, playing a key role in generating coherent microresonator optical frequency combs. Recent studies have focused on the dynamics and applications of these solitons under inhomogeneous driving fields, exploring theoretical developments to analyze cavity soliton motion and conducting experiments in various resonator systems.

Dissipative Kerr solitons, breathers, and chimera states in coherently driven passive cavities with parabolic potential

Yifan Sun et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the stability and dynamics of dissipative Kerr solitons (DKSs) in the presence of a parabolic potential. The potential stabilizes oscillatory and chaotic regimes, promoting the generation of static DKSs. Additionally, the potential induces the emergence of new dissipative structures, such as asymmetric breathers and chimera-like states. By decomposing these states into modes, the underlying modal interactions are revealed.

Influence of stimulated Raman scattering on Kerr domain walls and localized structures

P. Parra-Rivas et al.

Summary: This study investigates the formation of bright and dark localized states in all-fiber resonators subject to stimulated Raman scattering under coherent optical injection. The Raman scattering breaks the reflection symmetry of the system and modifies the dynamics, stability, and locking of domain walls. This leads to the formation of both dark and bright moving localized states that are otherwise absent.
