The Effect of Air Turbulence on Vortex Beams in Nonlinear Propagation

Di Zhu et al.

Summary: We analyzed the statistical regularities of vortex beams propagating through a lens or an axicon with different series of turbulent air phase screens. The simulation results showed that the distortion of the transverse intensity was sensitive to the location and structure constant of the turbulence screen. Additionally, we confirmed that a vortex beam with a large topological charge can suppress the influence of air turbulence. These findings are valuable for applications in the atmospheric air, particularly in optical communication and remote sensing.

Measurements of atmospheric turbulence with airborne beacons by using a differential scintillation method

Chenxiang Qiu et al.

Summary: The proposed differential scintillation method is capable of eliminating vibrations of unmanned aircraft vehicle platforms and has potential applications in turbulence measurements along atmospheric paths. The experimental results demonstrate its good consistency and statistical properties, making it a reliable technique to address stability issues in measurements of airborne beacons.

Wander and spread of a perfect Laguerre-Gauss beam under turbulent absorbent seawater

Hongbin Yang et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the wander and long-term spread of a perfect Laguerre-Gauss (PLG)/circular perfect Laguerre-Gauss (CPLG) beam in turbulent absorbing seawater. Numerical analysis reveals that PLG and CPLG beams have stronger resistance against turbulence.

Aperture-averaged scintillation index and fade statistics in weak oceanic turbulence*

Hao Wang et al.

Summary: This paper derived analytical expressions of the aperture-averaged scintillation index for both plane and spherical waves in weak turbulence based on the Rytov theory. The study also discussed typical fade statistics of the UOC system in weak turbulence, showing that spherical wave is preferable in the UOC system compared to plane wave, and the aperture-averaged effect has a significant impact on system performance.
