Compact and robust 2 x 2 fast quasi-adiabatic 3-dB couplers on SOI strip waveguides

Yung- Hung et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates compact and robust fast quasi-adiabatic (FAQUAD) couplers for silicon-on-insulator (SOI) strip waveguides, achieving shortcuts to adiabatic mode evolution in a short length. Couplers with measured bandwidths over a temperature range are designed and fabricated using standard CMOS-compatible optical lithography, showcasing high performance in a small device footprint. Devices with longer mode evolution regions also show promising bandwidths over a temperature range in simulations and experiments.

Compact polarization-independent quasi-adiabatic 2x2 3 dB coupler on silicon

Hung-Ching Chung et al.

Summary: In this study, a quasi-adiabatic polarization-independent 2x2 3 dB coupler based on the silicon-on-insulator platform is demonstrated. The TE mode evolution is accelerated and the TM mode coupling is achieved at a short coupling length using a quasi-adiabatic taper design. The coupler exhibits a wide working bandwidth and a compact size.

Ultra-compact polarization-independent 3 dB power splitter in silicon

Aoxue Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, an ultra-compact polarization-independent 3 dB power splitter on the silicon-on-insulator platform is experimentally demonstrated. Subwavelength structure engineering is utilized to balance the coupling coefficients of TE and TM polarizations while reducing the footprint. The device features ultra-compact size and operates over a bandwidth of over 50 nm.

A Compact Low-Loss Broadband Polarization Independent Silicon 50/50 Splitter

Junming Cai et al.

Summary: A low-loss, compact, polarization-insensitive 3dB optical power splitter for submicron silicon waveguides has been developed and optimized over a broad wavelength range, with a small junction footprint of 1.8 x 1.3 μm. Fabricated using electron beam lithography, the device maintains a compact size with low insertion loss of less than 0.3 dB for both TE and TM polarizations.
