Quench Dynamics of a Fermi Gas with Strong Nonlocal Interactions

Summary: We induce strong nonlocal interactions in a 2D Fermi gas in an optical lattice using Rydberg dressing, measure the interactions, and study the lifetime of the gas in the presence of tunneling, finding that tunneling does not reduce the lifetime. Investigating the interplay of nonlocal interactions with tunneling, we find that strong nearest-neighbor interactions slow down the relaxation dynamics of charge-density waves in the gas. Our work opens the door for quantum simulations of systems with strong nonlocal interactions such as extended Fermi-Hubbard models.

Two-color optical nonlinearity in an ultracold Rydberg atom gas mixture

Summary: The experimental observation of strong two-color optical nonlinearity in an ultracold gas of Rb-85 - Rb-87 atom mixture is reported. The nonlinearity can be tuned by varying the density ratio of different atomic isotopes, demonstrating potential for exploring strongly interacting multicomponent fluids of light. The phenomenon is described by two coupled nonlinear wave equations developed to explain the cross-absorption modulation to the beam propagation dynamics.

Giant Kerr nonlinearities and magneto-optical rotations in a Rydberg-atom gas via double electromagnetically induced transparency

Summary: In this study, we investigated the Kerr and magneto-optical effects for a probe laser field in a cold Rydberg atomic gas through double electromagnetically induced transparency. The system showed giant nonlocal self- and cross-Kerr nonlinearities contributed by Rydberg-Rydberg interaction, and the theoretical results were in close agreement with recent experimental findings. Additionally, we demonstrated the potential for designing atomic magnetometers with high precision and promising applications in nonlocal nonlinear magneto-optics and optical information processing based on Rydberg atomic gases.
